Hotel and restaurant Tomi was unforgetable experience. You can feel the true meaning of family hotel. Tomi is restaurant with the hotel and which means that culinary is the strongest side of the hotel. We had a HB an we were surprised, that even for HB menu you get a la carte dinner! We traveled with 3 children and we had very nice time at the hotel pool, which is filled, as owner explained, with half - salty water which is good for skin. Having a fun at the pool side with beautiful view at the Portoroz Bay. Rooms are big, clean and filled with comfort (PC, free wi-fi internet, unforgetable balcony views and massage showers, comfortable beds). The special experience was, when we forget closed the door, and our 2 years old son went out of the room and we paniced. When we come to the lobby, he was sitting with the owner son at their family table and play. They are very, very friendly, helpful. The food was real experience - high culinary, taste and quality. It is really great that there can be great time for children and for parents as well. My wife took a thai massage and we had a great romantic dinner, so we will be definitely regular guests.

hello
i had a buisness meeting in Portoroz so i stayed in this hotel. I stayed there for 4 days and i have to say it was great. Rooms have are big, have great massage showers and the best view. in every room there is a PC with internet connection (free of charge), this was very important so i coul stay in touch with my home buisness. breakfast is self service. the personel is very kind and the meals are i think the best in Portorož...
i would raccomend this to all that are staying for buisness in Portoroz

Room Tip: i had a room on second floor and is quiet and has a great view

Get for an interesting entrence, you have to take side stairs to the reception.
The rooms are clean. Not very large.
There is a combined computer/tv module in the room. Wireless is also available for free.
The shower is multifunctional, steam, music and lights. It is working, I enjoyed it.

The food in the restorant is good (lunch and dinner). Do not expect too much for the breakfast, it is decent.
The staff is friendly and communication was not a problem.

I would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for larger rooms with sea view.

Upon arrival at this hotel, we had to take a steep stairs to reception with two large bags (I'll admit I'm not a light traveller), where we were abruptly greeted and given a key to our room which we were told was on the second floor. However, there was no lift and again not one person offered to help us with our bags. Please note that it was 40 degrees out and there was no air conditioning in the common areas (including the restaurant) so you can imagine that we were feeling a little hot and out of breath by the time we reached our room. But this is really only a minor grievance…………

When we walked into the room we found a stifling hot attic room with dated furniture and a sloping floor. The balcony door had been left open which meant the air conditioning automatically turned off, a problem we kept encountering, however, even when the air con was on it struggled to provide any cool air and looked like something from the 70s which was probably in keeping with the décor. The bathroom though did look quite modern and had some very complicated shower with radio and jets etc. which we thought was quite cool (at the time).

Not liking the room we escaped to the pool area which I must admit was lovely although the pool was a bit small but fine and there was a lovely view over Portoroz also. We spent most of our time in the hotel out here.

Once back in the room I tried to take a shower to find that when it turned on it only trickled out cold water from despite the numerous jets. Thinking it was just us not knowing how to work it properly (there were a lot of different buttons), we called reception who sent up their “handyman”. After about a half an hour of looking at the shower they told us that it was broken and that we would have to use it as is. We asked them if there was another room available and they told us that they were fully booked. We then asked if there was anything else they could do to accommodate us to which they were very dismissive and we were told that we were welcome to leave but we would struggle to get accommodation anywhere else. You can imagine how impressed we were with the customer service but we had no choice but to stay.

Now my last final negative point is in relation to the location. Although it has been referred to as a 5/10 minute walk into Portoroz this may be true when you were going down hill to the town but on the way back it was a very steep incline including numerous steps which in the heat was certainly not a pleasant walk. To add to this there were no street lights and it was very dark and difficult to see your way, I did not feel the safest at these times.

I can’t comment on the restaurant although it seems to have some good reviews but we decided it best to avoid the staff that had been anything but kind and welcoming to us but the breakfast was a standard continental breakfast in a shabby room.

Although it's been a year since we, my boyfriend and I, stayed in this hotel (August 2010) I still felt the need to review it to make sure that other travellers do not make the same mistake as we did. I always rely on trip advisor when booking hotels and usually take bad reviews with a pinch of salt knowing that people are more willing to spread bad feedback than good but in this instance please take what I say seriously, it was not a pleasant stay and had we not been moving to another hotel in Lubjiana it would have put a negative spin on the end of our holiday.

We know that Hotel Tomi has a loyal following and are very admiring of the hard working family that run it, but we unfortunately wouldn't recommend it. Although our suite of 2 large rooms had excellent balcony views over Portoroz they were very outdated. Huge lumpy furniture and tacky pictures of naked women (much to the amusement of my teenage boys!) It was boiling hot weather and the air con was really struggling. The bathroom - sorry, was disgusting. A revolting 70's massage shower that had a very think layer of ingrained mould all around the silicone and disgusting black jet nozzles. It felt like showering in a fithy coffin. eugh. Dirty plastic bin in the corner as well. The staff worked really hard and breakfast wasn't bad. But he pool area was GREAT. Really nicely designed and very clean. The boys loved it and the area around the pool was also really relaxing with great loungers and canopies.. Restaurant really good too, though boiling hot and badly needed some ceiling fans.

We selected Hotel Tomi based on TripAdvisor reviews and it was a good decision. Only ten minutes uphill walk from the beach Hotel Tomi provides beautiful view from the balcony, room was tidy and clean equipped with a funny massage shower and dinners were excellent in any seafood category.
I recommend Tomi as a good base camp for daily excursions.
