“Delicious, friendly and reasonably priced”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

We had a lovely meal here on a Sunday lunchtime. The waiter was really friendly and advised us wisely, we had a delicious selection of mussels, scallops, razor clams and vongole all served in a delicious sauce. Nice fresh salad and a carafe of local wine too. We thought it reasonably priced and good value.

“Very good food and so friendly”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed at Pri Mari and ate at the highly recommended restaurant there, which was amazing, and my book's (Rough Guide) next recommendation was Pirat, so off we went for lunch one day. The waiter was very welcoming and deftly displayed his multilingualism by speaking English to us, German to the people leaving as we entered, French to the couple next to us and Italian to a large group of day-timer revelers; he himself was Slovenian. We ordered main courses and I went for the peppered steak - a dish that is, admittedly, everywhere, but has not once let me down in terms of flavour, cooked the way i ask for it, and so tender. It came with a perfectly zingy but not overpowering mushroom and peppery sauce, and my friend had a Ljubljanski zrezek - pork stuffed with cheese and ham. Both came with excellent crunchy-on-the-outside-and-fluffy-on-the-inside potato croquettes, and vegetables that were perhaps a little overcooked. This does sound very heavy but it wasn't, the flavours were so good and the portions well-sized. Also, we shared a huge bean salad evenly drenched in pumpkin oil - this oil is amazing and I am currently trying to source it in the UK. Four of us ate well and drank a couple of beers each (Lasko, a good lager, and Union lager, slightly sweeter and not as refreshing, in my opinion). The total came to around €40 - a great price.
The restaurant itself is large, airy, full of trinkets and piraty displays but not too many to be tacky, and the usual dark wood everywhere that gives you a European beer house feel, solid tables and high beams. Would always go back.
