Beware: there is a Cubo restaurant and a Cubo restaurant. The »old« one more towards the outskirts of town, the new one in the hotel of the same name in the city centre. It is the old one, the classic, I am writing about.
It was for a time one of the top places to go in Ljubljana to enjoy very good cuisine, the best wine list in town (for a time also in the country), friendly service and a truly nice modernistic interior. No problem with parking, easy to find, fine utterly modern washrooms. Unfortunately, things turned the wrong way some four years ago. The menu has been basically unchanged since, the excellent choice of wines is now a sad memory. Clearly its hotel counterpart, opened in between (beware, there is some 4km distance), influenced the concept very much. The higher culinary level in the ambitious hotel project resulted in the less important role of the old restaurant, now intended mostly as the lunch residence for the neighboring business. Dishes are still fine, but the energy and creativity have somehow disappeared. From the star to the cash cow. Not that I do not genuinely enjoy going there still for a brief business lunch, though. But I know well in advance what I shall order. 12 for food is now the realistic mark on a 0-20 scale.
Not for backpackers, not for the most ardent foodies. Pricing acceptable, not cheap.
