We had dinner in Zlata Ribica, on our first night in Ljubljana; having had a large lunch in Trieste on our way to Ljubljana we just opted for a main course and a bottle of water, at over Euro 7 for .75 litre, the most expensive bottle of water on our week long trip of Slovenia and Venice! My wife opted for a slow roasted lamb rump with spring onion, which was literally as stated, i.e. it was served with a large, bulbous raw spring onion on the side! The meat was served on the bone, which was quite fiddly but the portion of meat was tasty and generous, served with small roast potatoes. I opted for the loin of pork, which, disappointingly was served very pink; I had not been asked how I wanted it cooked and when the waiter came to clear our plates and saw that I had left quite a bit of the pork, I explained that while I am happy to eat medium-rare beef, I, like the majority of people, prefer pork to be cooked through, to which he replied “it should be served pink”, he was however, a very friendly and helpful waiter. The pork was served with a portion of fried polenta and the sweet onion sauce was pleasant. We were served with a complimentary, delicious blueberry based liqueur after dinner, which was much appreciated. This is a nice restaurant with lots of outside seating by the river, a little expensive for what you get but decent enough.
