For 60 Euro a night this B&B is excellent value for money. The room was adequate and we loved the kitchen in a cupboard as we could make tea and coffee during the day when we came for a break, as well as to have some wine and lunch. Breakfast might be improved, it is very basic. We bought our own stuff and as we stayed only two nights, so we did not mind. The bathroom was compact and clean and had the only bath during a three week stay in Slovenia and the Czech Republic, and I often missed it. There is also access to wi fi. We had the red room without a balcony which overlook a courtyard in the back, which was fine with us. As it is an old building, we had to walk up several flights of stairs, which might be a problem for some people.

Location wise, you can't ask for better than this B&B as all previous reviewers have remarked on as well. It makes a huge difference to be able to walk everywhere, like the market, castle, Triple Bridge etc.

I would greatly recommend Petra Varl B&B and would not stay elsewhere if I ever get the chance to go again!

Great location facing a quiet courtyard at the foot of the Castle. A reservation mix-up was remedied: they paid for a night at another hotel and for transport there and back. The breakfast was meager compared to other b&b's we visited.

Petra is very nice, and her place is in a square near the market, old town center, and just below the Castle. The room was tight, but the bed was very comfy, the room very quiet, and a nice balcony adjoins. Petra suplies breakfast stuff, but you have to make it yourself.
We loved Slovenia!

Family run B&B, the room with the balcony looks like it was formerly part of the owners flat (they live next door), which is perfect for dealing with them! They also have a room upstairs. The room we stayed in was tiny and compact, but we only needed it for sleeping and as a base, so it suited our needs perfectly. The 'kitchen in a cupboard' just has to be seen, what a great idea. The owners were friendly and helpful. Superb location in a courtyard at the foot of the castle. The venicular railway is a 2 minute walk away and you are also right in the middle of the old town, a more central location for this city you could not wish. At €60 a night for the room, what more could you ask. Would stay here again, it was lovely.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a balcony.

We loved our 3 night stay at Petra Varl. The location was just perfect for our needs - you step out into the open air fresh food/flower/clothes market which is open every day except Sunday I think . We flew to Ljubljana, caught a bus and walked about 10 minutes to the market place and our B & B. The tiny kitchenette (jug, small amount crockery & cutlery, sink, breakfast supplies) is such a great idea - other places we stayed did not even supply a jug. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Petra and her assistant Katya were lovely and not at all intrusive. We had a full sized bath with shower over it in our bathroom. We booked direct with the B & B and had no problems at all. We found Ljubljana in winter a friendly, small city with plenty of bars and coffee shops open. A day trip by local transport to Bled was easy and cheap and worth doing. The big Information Centre in the far end of the market square (as you come out of the arch at Petra's turn left if I remember correctly) is very good and has computers for hire. We hired a car at the end of our stay and found it quite easy to navigate our way out of Ljubljana. Our favourite lunch was at the restaurant at the castle above our B & B (easy access by funicolare). However, even in winter we were lucky to get a table without a booking. A very enjoyable stay - not 5 star but comfortable and welcoming. If I were ever there again I would definitely stay at Petra Varl.
