Great Location! Your right in the heart of the city where all the action is, however this comes with some concessions. First, there is no lobby/front desk. This is not a big deal, but odd for a 4 star hotel. This is not a hotel per say, it is a converted older apartment. The front of the building is from the 1800s and yet this building is behind that and built upon the scaling walls of the castle that towers above it. I would date the structure from the 1400 – 1600s. It literally has a cave feeling about walking up the stairs. Ground water is seeping through the mountainside walls. I found it very interesting to stay in such an antiquated building. Ok, to get back on track. No lobby….did not turn out to be an issue as they provide you with a contact number, so I guess if you lost your key or some other issue you better have that phone number handy! Second, the payment options. So, I booked this through Kayak.com and got a good rate, I then received an e-mail for the automated payment through Paypal.com. I guess if you don’t have Paypal, then you’re out of luck. Later I received an automated email to confirm check-in and with a PIN code to enter the property for the first time. Odd… first time for me at least. So, I arrive at the hotel/rooms and it feels like I’m entering a hidden CIA safe house or something. You enter into a vaulted entry (see photo) and into the back older property with another PIN code entry (see photo), up a few flights of stairs hugging the cliff walls of the mountain and into a warmly decorated, yet small room. It had a quaint view of some other apartments with hanging flowers from the window ceils. If you have been to Verona, Italy then it would remind you of the courtyard of Romeo and Juliet. The room probably dates to the same period of when Romeo and Juliet was written. So, kind of like staying in Juliet’s room, if you can imagine that? As this is probably the first real review of this hotel I have posted ample pictures.
Bottom line…. If you’re staying here, it is because of Location, Location, and Location. This is prime real estate for downtown. However, you will have to forego room service, bar, lobby, all that jazz. I enjoyed my two night stay and would stay here again.
Oh, two more things… They do offer some concierge services upon request. I was actually greeted upon my arrival and offered if I was interested in a boat tour, concerts, etc.
Walking distance parking is 25 Euro per day, so factor that if you drive.
