“Basic and limited”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

We arrived very late at this restaurant after the opera at 10.20pm and the proprietor kindly stayed open for us. There were no other diners. The chef also stayed long enough to cook our meal. However, the menu was very limited - basically grilled meat. We felt compelled to eat quickly and leave to allow them to close. The grilled meat ("peasants plate") and steak were satsfactory. The stews that this reataurant is known for were not available. We went ouit of our way to get here but it was a disappointing dining experience. There are other bistro type restaurants with better decor and ambience in Ljubljana. Try Juglia. Accomodating proprietor but disappointing food. If you go, don't forget to pick up vouchers at the tourist information office for free drinks.

“Quite disappointing”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

It was snowing and cold however we were determined to find this restaurant which was recommended in the tourist magazine. We were also looking forward to the soups and goulash dishes to warm us up. After sitting, we were abruptly informed no 'spoon' dishes were on the menu except mushroom soup. I went for the 'Emporers Fingers' and my partner was recommended the 'Peasants Grill' which was going to be some nice mixed grill which sounded ok. Mine was some dry pork wrapped in bacon which was hard to eat and the peasants grill was 2 types of huge barely warm sausages on a bed of sauerkraut, also very dry and hard to eat.

When a not so grumpy and rather nice person took our plates we were honest when he asked us if everything ok from which they insisted on giving us a free Slovenian dessert. Unfortunately this was inedible so we just had to pay and leave.

This place could be good if they had everything on the menu and worked on their customer service skills.

“Decent food, under-average service”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

The place itself is not bad, we had some decent cevapi with ajvar and mustard (the only choice, because everything else was finished), but the waiter was quite grumpy and rude (maybe because we were students, with the italian tourist couple he was much nicer). With all the good restaurants in Ljubljana and Trubarjeva street, I don't think I'll come back.

“Decent food did not make up for terrible atmosphere and other shortcomings.”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

First the advertised 'Slovenian Evening' was not available (and it was a Friday night!).

Second, after having made a reservation we were sat upstairs - which was really awful. Terrible atmosphere. No ambiance. Near the end of our meal we discovered there was a downstairs, actually with tablecloths! Much nicer. Others had disappeared but how were we to know?

Third there was the smell of smoke - whether from outside or elsewhere we don't know but both my wife and I definitely detected the smell.

Fourth - the music was loud and awful.

Fifth - the waiter was gruff and not particularly friendly.

Sixth - in spite of calling ahead and mentioning my wife was a vegetarian and being told something nice would be done all she was provided (beyond the mushroom soup which was quite good) was a small plate of overpriced mushrooms. Very disappointing.

Only the rest of the food, which was generally tasty and interesting saved this from being a 'Terrible' assessment. You can gather we would neither return nor recommend Bistro POMF. It is very unfortunate we were misled by the previous 'Excellent' reviews, assessments we simply do not understand or agree with.

“great food”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

Great authentic slovenian food which is off the main square. You'd need a map but it's worth the 5-6min walk from the centre.
We shared the cottage cheese rolls which were delicious. For mains, I had the venison goulash which was very good (and huge portions - don't be deceived by the 'small kettle dish' phrase). My wife had the grilled mince beef that was stuffed with cheese, and unfortunately for me, her meal tasted better than mine!
