Quite taken aback by the beauty of this place and so happy we chose to go here for a little trip, however, the time we had for it was to little so what could we do about that?
Come back another time and stay a bit longer.
Ljubljana is not at all what we had expected. The old town is buzzing with cafes bars upmarket shops of all kinds, street artists and restaurants. Day or night it feels safe, fun, cosmopolitan and a fabulous place to people watch. We spent hours just wandering around the old town, admiring the architecture, sipping cold drinks and taking in the atmosphere. Small enough to walk round easily but large enough not to get bored. A fabulous weekend destination - and be sure to have a local beer by the river.
My wife and I had a couple of hours to explore Ljubljana on a cruise ship excursion from Koper. We enjoyed a guided tour around the main sites and then had time to wander.
Ljubljana is a compact city that's very easy to navigate on foot, and all the main sites are just a short walk away. The old centre of the city is very attractive with wonderful old buildings, statues, pretty views over the many bridges along the river. We didn't have enough time to explore the castle which sits high above the city, but this would be a lovely place to enjoy a long weekend city break. The prices were affordable.
It's also a good base to explore attractions further afield such as the beautiful Lake Bled and the eastern end of the Alps. Wonderful historic city and well worth a visit.
Ljubljana basically is a walking city where every attractions can be easily reached by foot. Old Town Ljubljana is where the locals set up the morning market with some cafes around and traditional Ljubljana cuisine restaurants are nearby too. It is also walking distance to Dragon Bridge and Ljubljana Grad where to enjoy the panoramic view of the city.
This city is a great hidden little gem. Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly. Great bars and restaurants. Just a general lovely chilled out vibe. Fully recommend
