I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Old Town Ljubljana. What was made the visit special was the combination of a wide variety of street performers, excellent architecture, and the clear pride inhabitants had in the town. While the Old Town is much smaller than many of the other central European capitols, there is still a very strong sense of 'Mittel Europa" that hangs over the city. People really turned out for the evening activities and were enjoying some unique street performers to include a' cappella singers, puppet shows, and a performance art piece that walked a line between 'agit prop" and farce. If you missed Prague in 1994, the Old Town will give you a sense of what it was like.

The City Centre is full of atmosphere and very beautiful. It is clean and there are many impressive buildings around the river with interesting architectural features. We loved the markets and the cafe culture and the free street entertainment was great - a brilliant jazz concert, a 60's Dylan style busker and very good bands playing British music from the stage by the Pink Cathedral. The river and its bridges and boat trips create a relaxed atmosphere but if you don't like Church bells you should be aware that there are many Churches in the city and the all have bells which chime frequently.

The castle is a real feature of the city and we also enjoyed cycling to Tivoli Park on good cycle paths. There were no traffic jams anywhere we went and parking was easy. We were able to leave our car for the weekend free of charge on Grudnovo Nabrezje in white area not the yellow area!

We would highly recommend this city!

We were on our way to Croatia and spent the night and had a nice surprise how bike friendly the city and parks were. Look to come back soon.

I visited during a weekend, especially on a Sunday morning is a quiet place and not at all busy, it was a pleasure to stroll through this magnificent and historic small town.
Although to be honest the best time to enjoy the full beauty of this spectacular place is in the evening, Ljubljana is a small but beautiful city, its historic center crossed by the river and its many bridges especially at night are lit and make the atmosphere very impressive.
