“Fine Small Hotel in a Great Ljubljana Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

My wife, son and I selected Hotel Cubo with the help of TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. It is a stylishly-modern hotel without being severely minimalist as is the fashion elsewhere. Staff were very helpful and the location proved to be better than I expected, being a very short walk (one long block) from Ljubljana's very pleasant and lively pedestrial walking streets.

There are no fitness facilities (I think) but there is a large city park nearby with great running paths and a municipal pool, which is probably available for use by visitors.

Breakfast was great.

Our only small problem was the apparent unresponsiveness of the high-tech in-room thermostat. Turns out that the central control system, which can be reset by the receptionist, holds the temperature at a fixed level, plus or minus 3 degrees Celsius. If you want to vary the temperature beyond that, you just need to mention it to the receptionist.

I don't write a lot of reviews because it takes time to reflect the quality of each place, and I usually only do this if a Hotel, Staff or a particular Location made a huge impact on me, and so did the lovely Cubo.

This Hotel just understood to make everything right, wait, let me rephrase, outstanding!.

Cubo is located in the center of Ljubljana next to the old town where the hip and "must go to" area starts. It's quite, it's beautiful and for those who seek parking (it comes with parking by the way) can even park close at the public parking place about 2 blocks from the hotel.

In the past, Ljubljana had only 1-2 Hotels that I would occasionally recommend, but nothing cool, fancy and really nice. Now it has a new rising star, the Cubo

Beside the Hotel itself and the outstanding and breathtaking interiors, as well as the comfort and suitability, and the included extras like "proper" highspeed internet, this review is dedicated to an amazing set of characters who make that hotel the one of it's kind I am writing about.

I travel about 2-3 times per week and I have stayed in hundreds of Hotels over the last 7 years and I never particularly had any issues with the staff. Meaning, that things were always ok and as expected, but this team, is the very best one I have ever seen.

Be it the night shift Guys, the cute, adorable girls from the front desk or the restaurant and/or housekeeping. YOU make this Hotel the reason for my stay.

Breakfast until 11 (important for me), still, even 10 minutes to 11, I get the full service offered eggs, pancakes, anything. The reception, kind helpful and absolutely adorable :-)

But my personal regards goes to Mr. Andrej.

He is by far, the most outstanding Maître d’hôtel I have seen.

He speaks perfect german, english, obviously slovenian (maybe other languages too :-)
But most importantly you can really see that he likes what he is doing.
He serves even ordinary and simple food with decoration and a personal style, he could easily work for Gordon Ramsey and or RedBull Hangar 7 (Ikarus).

He asked me for Parmesan on my pasta, but he didn't just bring me Parmesan, he came with with white gloves and a rasp cup to add fresh parmesan on my pasta. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing.

Since my first stay at Cubo I was sure it was the very best of its kind, but all together and most importantly the unique staff and it's warm cosy atmosphere makes you wanna stay here again.

Thank you for the pleasure.
Sincerely, Sebastian

The staff n the room were lovely, friendly comfortably modern n attractive. The breakfast was definitely good and the staff friendly n helpfull . Location was the best. Two minutes from the 4 bridges and the happening place in the city. We were surrounded by the land marks of the castle, the church and the main waterway the famous fountain and the marketplace and also the tourist information center. It was the best location and we enjoyed our stay here very much.

Room Tip: King size bed overlooking the castle

Can't fault this stylish boutique hotel at the heart of the pretty Slovenian capital. If you like ultra modern design with lots of glass, steel, clever lighting and quirky accessories with no expense spared this is a place for you. Everything about this hotel has an air of style and elegance. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast delicious and location - perfect. And if this is not enough - there was a free mini bar in the room.

A great new, cosy, design hotel. Good wifi, superb breakfast, great rooms and client orientated service with a smile! I stayed here with 2 friends over a long weekend and really could not find one negative. Worthwhile and very close to the old centre of Ljubljana without unnecessary frills like gym and/or pool.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back to avoid traffic noise.

Two blocks from old town and near the museums made for a great location. We loved the modern decor and staff could not have been friendlier. We had an early flight on the day we left and they packed us breakfasts to go!!! The hotel restaurant was elegant and food excellent. We loved the city and the hotel was special.

I've stayed in hotels around the world and have NEVER had such an all-round positive hotel experience!

1. Their location is perfect for sauntering along the river, stopping to listen to musicians on the bridges, on your way to many lovely, delicious small restaurants. No need to drive anywhere, or worry about drinking and driving.
2. The room, unlike those in many European hotels, was as beautiful and inviting as the hotel's public spaces. And large! Free minibar! (How cool is THAT!) Our room overlooked the busy street, and we were aware of some street noise, but Slovenians must retire fairly early....it was completely quiet after 10 or so, even on the weekend! In addition, rooms facing the street look up at the castle. The bed was the most comfortable bed that we slept in while in Europe.
3. Breakfast (also included with the room) is lovely, with a cold buffet, and hot items available for the asking. The woman who oversees breakfast is efficient and wonderfully friendly.
4. Which leads me to their staff. Every staff member encounter left me thinking, "Gee, they were GREAT!" Suggestions as to what to do, how to get there, procuring restaurant reservations... we've never experienced such warmth behind a hotel desk before! We called the desk at one point because we had trouble with the safe, and someone rang the bell to help us within one minute. (Literally) Shockingly good staff.

One helpful hint: If arriving by car, simply pull up to the door on the avenue side (there are a few handicapped spaces, use those if necessary), leave it and let the check-in desk know it's out there, and they'll park it for you. Did I mention free valet parking?? YES!

Seriously, thinking about Hotel Cubo makes me just giddy with the thrill of discovering such a gem and how much we enjoyed our stay. It's a downright bargain considering what you save on breakfasts and parking in a European capital city.

I'd give it a rating of 6 if it were possible.
