What a wonderful building this is! I loved it the minute I entered it!

I usually stay in modern “clean” design hotels, but really loved this old style, “cramped” with old furniture, heavy wallpaper and stylish bathroom hotel. Reception girl was superb, so happy and upbeat, helpful and organized. Good breakfast in basement beautiful restaurant…

Great location in old town, close to all attractions and array of bars and restaurants.

Though well versed in travelling, as this was a first time to Slovenia, I was somewhat out of my depth. Thanks to the Ljubljana DE, I was directed to hotels and restaurants that I must admit, I could never have identified on my own. AND WHAT A PLEASURE! The Allegro Hotel was best for so many reasons: firstly the location being slap dab in the middle of the "old town"; secondly, the hotel itself was as charming as one could hope for; thirdly, though Slovenia as a whole is probably one of the best "buys" in the EU, this hotel tariff was amazing value when compared to other options in the city; and lastly, and probably most importantly when one is in a place for the first time, the service on the part of Karmen was impeccable, warm, and precise. Though this is the first time to Slovenia, we will certainly be returning - we hope in 2013 on our next trip to Europe.Slovenia is a jewel that few people know about - its stunning mountains so close to the capital, lakes and seaside (combined with the Croatian coast) are unbeatable - and without sounding too "know-it-all" from people who have probably leisure travelled to as many if not more places than anybody not in the travel business. Thanks Slovenia!

We stayed at Allegro at the end of September. We arrived by train about 1/2 hour before sunset. We made the choice to walk to the hotel, as we had heard the taxis could be outrageous. We were so glad we walked - what a beautiful place Ljubljana is! Took about 20 minutes, pulling carry-on size luggage, but it's all level.

Allegro did not disappoint us in any way. They offered us some Cranberry liquor, which was very nice, while they checked us in. The room was one of the nicest we stayed in on our 3 week trip through Germany, Austria, Slovenia & Croatia. The courtyard is so nice, too.

I cannot understand someone not liking the breakfast - it was great! Fresh oranges & squeezer was a real treat. The breakfast room in the basement is very well kept up & we loved the atmosphere.

But the best thing about this hotel is the location. We walked everywhere & it was so nice not to have to deal with a car.

We did rent a car from Sixt (at the train station) when we were leaving Ljubljana & heading out into the rest of Slovenia. Allegro called us a taxi & we found that if you call a taxi, the rates are very reasonable. The taxi driver parked right around the corner & came to get us when he arrived, helped us with the luggage & was very nice about it all.

Can't say enough good things about Ljubljana - love it! We really enjoyed the Saturday market, especially the basement area - great cheese, bread, olives - oh man, I want to go back!

Absolutely recommend this hotel; staff were friendly, helpful and rooms clean and well kept. We had a large room on the first floor with balcony overlooking the Courtyard and Church. The bells seemed to ring at random times, the earliest being 8am on a Sunday morning ... but that was all part of the charm of being there. The hotel was quiet and relaxing - free wi-fi, bar and good breakfast selection with fresh bread and fruit (although it was the same cooked items every day). The location of the hotel was perfect within a short walk from the shops, mini supermarket and street cafes, we could not have done better for location. I recommend walking up to the Castle for coffee and cake! Overall a superb long weekend in Slovenia was had :o)

Lovely country and stay. I wish we had rented a car since taxis are expensive and public transport is available but time consuming or limited on Sundays. The city is wonderful to walk in and wander. We also went to lake Bled and Vintgar gorge in the fall is just stunning

When in Europe I stay in small hotels if possible. This little hotel, located in the old city, is one of the best. It is on a pedestrian only street and is about a block away from bus or cab drop off. The building has been carefully renovated with the guest rooms spaced around a central courtyard. We were in room 1, and we would request the same room again. It was brightly lit during the day by sunlight from the courtyard. Furniture was comfortable. There was a modern shower. Other amenities include an excellent breakfast buffet and complimentary schnapps and liqueurs in the evening. The front desk staff are very friendly and remarkably helpful. We had to get to the airport before breakfast, so Elio made up snack bags for us the night before. Also, he went out of his way to find us a shop that sold a particularly excellent local wine and refused a tip, saying this was all part of his job.

There is easy walking access to all the downtown and Old Town attractions.

Room Tip: We really liked room 1 with its ground floor access to the courtyard.

We stayed for 2 nights in October. The hotel is quirky and decorated in a baroque type style. Staff were friendly and helful. We stayed in room 4 in the 1st floor. It's a twin room. I found the room very comfortable. My friends were complaining about the church bells of the nearby church ringing very frequently and waking them up, but I slept with earplugs and did not notice anything. The location of the hotel is superb, in the very centre pedestrian area, but just at the end of one of the main pedestrian streets, so you don't have hundreds of tourists passing by under your room, but you are only a stone's throw away from all sights, restaurants, cafes and the castle.
Breakfast was nice, and the lounge of the hotel is quite comfortable for hanging out and taking a drink or a cafe latte.
The hotel is a bit on the pricey side for my taste, but location and comfort level justify this.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. Maybe noteworthy that there is no lift and you have to climb potentially several flights of stairs.
Wifi worked very well, but in the room only 2bars.
