“Adequate hotel but don't bank on a filling breakfast”
Reviewed May 30, 2010

The hotel is on the main street in Bovec so easy to find and has dedicated car parking. It is a no frills functional hotel with no element of personality about it (the brown and drab decor had a 1970's feeling). Both the bedroom and bathroom were fairly small and furnished in a basic style but were clean. However the breakfast (7-10am) was poor. We went at 9am and the choice was extremely limited (e.g. the fresh fruit salad was a couple of tinned peaches, the bread had seen better days, no salad, orange juice was out of a machine etc. but they did have plenty of pickled onions and gherkins!) so we went hungry. Overall would not recommend this place and will not be back.

great "old school" mountain type of hotel!

stayed there for a ski weekend, very near Kanin ski area, situated just in center of nice town Bovec.. rooms and bathroom are spacey, balcony with a great view on town center and surrounding mountains.. hotel staff is friendly and polite.. breakfast is decent and tasty..

thumbs up for Hotel Alp in Bovec!

Ok, the hotel it self is not so bad. You could say it's in the center of the town - but almost everything is, as the town is really small...
There are no extra activities in the hotel it self, and not much to do all around the town if the weather is bad.
As for the food - both breakfast and diner were rather good. Would not go as far to say they were spectacular, but there is a few options to chose from, and enoguh of everything not to start the day on an empty stomach.
The staff, as well as the hotel's decor, are stuck in the times long gone... The 80's are very much alive in this hotel, and you must not forget that in the 80's Slovenia was part of a comunist country! The staff will do what they can to help you - if you ask, but wan't go out of their way to do so on their own ...
And if you come to Bovec to go skiing on Kanin - note: the hotel is not walking distance to the gondola, but there is a ski bus stoping in front of the hotel each morning. Also in the case of the bad weather - a very often situation on Kanin mountain in the winter, a free bus will take you to Sella Nevea for a day on the slopes (but you have to register on the reception for the ride!).
Now, the thing my husband & I really hold against this hotel - THE HEATING IN THE ROOMS IS TURN OF AT NIGHT! We came to the hotel late, around midnight and by that time, our room was freezing, as it was on the end of the hallway, and it was -10 C or less outside, raining and windy. When we came back down to the reception, thinking there is something wrong with the heating in our room, the night concierge told us, there is nothing he can do, as the heating in the entire hotel is turn down at night. So, I ended up sleeping in my skiing jumper... Not a great expirience! Will not come here to freez again!

The hotel is great for the price, and about as central as you can get in Bovec. The rooms are clean and bright, with comfortable beds and cable tv, and they had a great powerful shower, which is vital after a day hiking/kayaking etc. The breakfast was continental, and had a wide choice of fresh food, although the coffee wasn't the best.

The staff were what made the place, really friendly and helpful, and always willing to share their knowledge of the local area. The owner, who seems to work all day everyday was especially nice, but was always cheerful. All the staff spoke good English too, which was excellent.

Overall, a really nice hotel for the price; clean, comfortable and great location, highly recommended.

The fourth stop on a cycling tour of the Triglav NP in the bustling centre of Bovec. The Hotel Alp is a modern construction at the heart of the small town. Know as the adventure capital of Slovenia, Bovec is expanding fast and there is potential for all sorts of fun in the area besides excellent mountain bike trails.
The staff at reception were polite but obviously more used to tour parties than independant guests. After parking our bikes in the ski room we had to find our room on the second floor. Without a floor plan and with all our luggage in tow that was no easy job. The building is a rather confusing design till you get used to it.
Our room was large, cool and clean. After the awful beds at the Hotel Krn we were able to enjoy a good night's rest again. Our window looked west over the town towards the mountains but we had no balcony. There was a shower rather than a bath: And the extractor fan worked- again a little something the Krn lacked.
Breakfast was taken in a separate section of the dining room for independant guests. There was plenty and to spare on offer.
There was a lively pool and cafe/bar area but with so much to do in the area it seemed a shame to linger. Other than that we found our two nights at the Alp rather bland and featureless.

  • Liked — Central position in Bovec
  • Disliked — Confusing design
