“fantastic even in winter”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We were a group of 8 friends (4 couples) and we stayed in Dobra Vila for 4 days. We were not sure if the place is appropriate for a winter stay. But now I can assure you it is. The wood fire is on, there is a nice christmassy smell and the hosts are wonderful. There was not enough snow for skiing but we went on beautiful walks in the area and enjoyed good food. For new year's eve we had a fantastic dinner at Dobra Vila and then champagne on the terrace around a log fire- Magic!

We stayed at Dobra Villa for a week in October. When you first arrive you are immediately struck by the amazing surroundings. The hotel itself is very nice and the boutique presentation makes it feel very special. Ultimately though a hotel is made by the people who provide the service and at Dobra Villa the team were so friendly and helpful, with lots of local knowledge and advice - they were brilliant. Finally, the food! My goodness, we intended to try lots of different restaurants during our stay, but after one night of eating at the hotel we were hooked! We ate there every evening and ate some of the best food we've ever had. We'll definitely be coming back!

The hotel is beautiful and the staff really nice. The room was confortable and everything was well decorated.
Breakfast was good, nothing amayzing.
The city is really small, so the hotel was close to everything (restaurantes, tourist info, market, etc)

Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, in a really gorgeous location. The two brothers who run the villa really made our visit, they were very accommodating and helped us plan activities throughout the day. The chefs menu at night for dinner was so great! Might seem on the expensive side relatively, but literally worth every penny!!

Beautifully decorated, this hotel feels special and comfortable all at the same time. The hosts were charming and breakfasts were delicious. We ate at the hotel on the last night of our stay - a delicious meal. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Room Tip: pay a little extra for a room on the balcony

This is probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. I cannot add much to the other reviews, only stress the main points again: The hotel is a converted post-office, thus has its peculiar layout (some rooms with high ceilings and very spacious. But it was not merely renovated but altered with extremly nice touches, from the garden design via plants to the library. It features a "cinema", a rooftop lookout, a great wine cellar. But above all the very friendly and helpful owners made this a special stay. It seems that they not only enjoyed creating a wonderful atmosphere with the rooms, but also keep enjoying makeing one's stay pleasurable.

We will definitely return. And I can recommend it wholeheartedly.

We stayed at Dobra Vila in April 2013, between the winter and summer seasons. The hotel - an old telephone exchange building - is gorgeous, with well-appointed interior and exterior public spaces, mixing 19th century charm with pieces of modern art. The rooms are simple but romantic, with high ceilings, large windows - many with terrific views - and ours was immaculate; the bathroom and shower, in particular, were luxurious, with brand new fixtures. The food - both included continental breakfast and set menu suppers and wine - were excellent; breakfast was basic but well-presented (muesli, fruit, cured meats, yoghurt, etc.) while our five course dinner was locally-sourced and gourmet, with the chef having previously worked in a Michelin-starred establishment - a steal at 20 euros per head. As delightful as the hotel was, it was surpassed by the service. Granted, we nearly had the place to ourselves during our stay given the low season, but the new management (two brothers that have had the hotel just over a year), was courteous, attentive, and extremely helpful in terms of organizing rafting, walks, etc. So much so that we extended our stay just to enjoy the hotel another day - and when we accidently left our credit card at the front desk, they drove 30 mins down the road to catch up with us in Kobarid and return it. Bovec is a popular destination with lots of places to stay, but you will not find anywhere better - or better value - than Dobra Vila.
