In June I took my family of 4 rafting on the Soca River and found the experience to be one of the highlights of our 18 day trip to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. The surrounding mountain scenery is truly spectacular and the river itself has crystalline water that is a beautiful light shade of green (thanks to the limestone). The rapids ranged from class 2 to 3 1/2 and our rafting guide was superb technically and also a great conversationalist. We were lucky in that we were able to do the 2 1/2 hour trip (May and June); if you raft in July, August or September the trip is 1 hour (fortunately, most of the action is during that 1 hour stretch of the river). The rafting equipment and logistical aspects of the excursion were topnotch. The starting point, Bovec, is a 2 hour drive from Ljubljana if you go via the fastest route but the far more scenic route is via the incredibly scenic Vrcic mountain pass. I have rafted rivers on 6 continents and this was my second favourite!
