Hotel Bohinj

Staying at the Bohinj Hotel 21-28June 2008. Nice location if you enjoy walking, however no recommended for a family. Bohinj has a lake, a waterfall and a ski lift. Plenty of places to walk, but that is all. There is a bus service every hour or so. My worst experience is the food. The hotel Bohinj does not offer a wide range of food, so if you would like something veggie you will be disappointed. we have complained to the rep, so the next step is the travel company. Other than that the suite rooms are spacious, cleaned regularly and can hold up to 3.

Nice clean Hotel, with good size, comfortable rooms. Food a major dissappointment. Definately not the standard you would expect at a 4 star Hotel, cold and boring.A shame as the area is beautifull and if food had been ok would have been a wonderfull place to recommend for a relaxing walking holiday. Not the place to go if you want shops and things to do other than walk.

This is a good, well located hotel to stay in. Rooms are big - get a suite it doesn't cost much more and you get a separate bedroom and sitting room. Pine furniture and floors and a bit minimalist. You also get another unfurnished room described in the brochures as a ski equipment room but is actually the kitchen of an abandoned, but sensible, scheme to turn these rooms into self catering apartments.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Got a free bottle of wine for a significant birthday which neither I or my partner had told them about so they must have picked it up on the passport check.

Downside is the food which is atrociousand is served in a dismal room at the end of a long basement corridor. If you have booked half board swop your evening meals for packed lunches and eat out in the evenings at the decent and cheap local restaurants. We were told the food is not prepared on the premises but is brought in by road. Other drawback is the bar which is just a few bottles behind the reception desk. Only 8 seats to serve hotel lobby, bar and free broadband station.

Other options are the Krystal a few minutes walk away on the Bled road. Used their bar a couple of times. Cosy if a bit english. Their restaurant was well liked by people we spoke to. Hotel Jezero is a building site at the moment and wasn't liked. Both these options cost a good bit more than the Bohinj.

We booked a suite featuring a large bedroom, bathroom, separate lounge with dining table, TV and sofa, large balcony with an incredible view of the lake and mountains and a separate ski room for storing equipment. It combined the best of self catering with the best of a hotel.

The food was good considering the price of the hotel. Breakfast as someone else mentioned was a little basic but perfectly okay. Dinner was nice - generally various meats, veg and potatoes.

Drinks in the hotel aren't overly cheap. Better to use the supermarket over the road for cheap soft and alocholic drinks.

The people (including the owner) are very friendly and always to hand. Very safe, friendly and relaxed area. Right by the bus stop - very reliable and good hourly service in both directions (Vogel/Bled + Airport) - a restaurant, supermarket and tourist informaton centre. Also right on the lake and church and you can hire bikes or take a boat trip in summer.

Highlights were regular trips to Mount Vogel. 5 min journey, about 2euro return. Cable car up and down is about 10euro and the views from 4,500ft are amazing. Lots of snow and great for skiing (we were just walking). From the airport it's 2 buses (total cost about 10euro) and takes about 80 mins via Kranj. Bled is under 30mins and about 7euro return. Amazing lake there too, shops, casino, places to eat and a few more people.

English is quite common although sketchy in parts. The country is very 'quiet' and relaxing - population not much bigger than London and quite spread out. We almost has the area and hotel to ourselves for much of the trip. A definite must for skiers, those after relaxation, mountains or walking.

The location of this hotel must be the best in the area. While it is right next to the lake, the church, the bridge, the tourist office, restaurants and all the other services of this resort, it manages to have no road noise or other detraction. There is a lovely garden with mountain views and garden furniture. The rooms are light and airy, with contemporary furnishings and safety deposit boxes. As it was on the ground floor, ours even had its own little terrace directly on to the garden with table, chairs and loungers for our sole use.
The reception staff were welcoming and helpful.
The only flaw I found in this moderately priced and efficiently run hotel was its breakfast buffet. There was a wide range of foods on offer but the quality could have been better. The cereal choice was limited and unappetising, fruit choice was limited, juices came from a machine and the only toaster available was a Foreman grill which took nearly 10 minutes to produce the palest slice of toast. The dining room decor could also do with an update. Breakfast aside though, it's a nice hotel to use as a base and its position is unrivalled in what must be the most beautiful location in Slovenia.

My wife and I spent the week between Christmas and New Years at the Hotel Bohinj, and found the accommodations to be some of the newest, most modern, and least expensive rooms we have ever stayed at in Europe. We booked a suite which had a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room with sofa, card table, TV and refrigerator, and a third empty room perfect for storing ski gear. The meals were hearty typical offerings of the area, nothing fancy, but included in the very moderate price. One tip we would give you is that if you are not eating in the hotel, let them know in the morning (we ate dinner in 3 nights and ate out 3 nights, as we enjoy some of the other places for meals). We are hoping to return for New Years either this year or next year.
