The Alp Penzion deserves every 5 star review here.

Location: Quiet surroundings with a decent sized garden in which you can pour yourself a glass local red plonk, pat the owner’s dog or gaze out at the Julian alps and Karavake Mountain.

The hotel’s a 10min stroll from the ‘busy’ (i.e. there’s a very small shopping center) end of Lake Bled. If walking’s really problematic then perhaps a hotel on the lakeside would be more appropriate but I’d happily recommend the location to my 60 year old parents. Bikes can be loaned (at no cost) and a quick spin around the Lake is a must.

Food: The Breakfast spread was plentiful with cold meats, freshly baked bread (waking up to this smell was wonderful), cheeses, cereal, yoghurts, fruit and drinks.

Supper is offered too and it’s as fantastic as other tripadvisor reviewers have remarked. A 4-course meal, containing locally sourced ingredients, for 15 Euros each. £10 for anybody able to name a better culinary bargain! Supper needs to be booked post-breakfast as the chef will prepare the right amount of grub. We ate there on our final evening and, such was our enjoyment, regret not having gone half-board.

Lake Bled was the most active holiday I’ve ever experienced but I returned to England looking like a blob because of their terrific food!

Staff: Regretfully we never caught the name of the female manager that waited on us throughout our stay. She is the sister of the woman that lives in the huge next door home – If you’re reading this, thanks so much for making us feel so welcome.

Lake Bled: This was our summer holiday and Lake Bled was my girlfriend’s choice. A cursory glance online had me doubtful there’d be enough to occupy our time; that we’d grow bored, row, swear it’s our last holiday etc etc but, as is normally the case, she was spot on.

The lake itself is straight from the pages of a fairy tale: it’s lined with forests and the occasional grassy patch on which you can throw down your towels and head out to swim. There’s a small island in the middle, upon which rests a church (which for 3 Euros you can walk in a ring the bells). A picturesque Disney-like castle perches high on the hillside.

Hikes galore if that floats your boat. Kayaks to hire, gondolas to be ferried on and a toboggan site to shoot down too.

Special mention goes to Emerald River Adventure (to which Tripadvisor reviewers unanimously offer two thumbs up): a 12-hour session of spectacular sights, walks and a 12m jump off a bridge!

We left feeling incredibly glum, always a good sign of a great holiday, and are already planning a return, both to Bled and Alp Penzion.

In the country side at the edge of Bled, but only a 10 minute walk to the Lake, with beautiful views of the Castle and the surrounding mountains. Small (12 bedrooms) but has well appointed and spacious rooms and faciities. Food excellent, but must book the scrumpious evening meal after breakfast, as the menu changes daily and the ingredients are freshly purchased/picked. Large garden area where you can sit tranquilly and partake of the "free bar" (help yourself to draught beer, wine and many other chilled drinks and record details in the honesty book). For the energetic there is a tennis court - free use of equipment - and as at most hotels in Bled there is free use of bicycles. Alternatively you can, at a price, pamper yoursel in the adjacent "Well Being Health Spa." It may not always be quiet and serene as the garden offers children a variety of play opportunities. The host and staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would love to return and highly recommend the Alps and Lake Bled .

Room Tip: Rooms on South and Nort sides have balconies - South wake up to the morning sun, and the North sit and relax with a drink in the afternoon/evening sun.

Bled left me a bit disappointed as it came across a bit like Branson or Gatlinburg - way too touristy. But a short walk away in a balcony room on the second floor, I felt like we had the Alps to ourselves. The pride of a family run business was obvious, the breakfast delicious, and no one yelled at me when I left with the room key and had to mail it back from Bovec!

Room Tip: The balcony rooms at the back put you out in the country.

We stayed two nights here whilst touring the area in a hire car. We had app 1 which was a three person room, although there were just the two of us. As you entered there was a sofa bed and tv as well as a tray with kettle, and tea and coffee(photo 18 of prof photos). through an archway led to a large room with large bed and bathroom off. It was all beautifully furnished and bright. The only downside was there was no nice view from any of the windows. There was a good selection at breakfast, and always fresh scrambled egg was offered. Car parking was a bit tricky at times, as there were so many cars. Other than breakfast, we didn't spend much time there to appreciate all that was on offer. I would have loved to have used the wellness spa and relaxed, but we were too busy seeing this beautiful country. - Time just ran out. My only reason for not marking as excellent, was the lack of view from our room. It was a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: our room app 1 was on the ground floor near reception and was beautiful inside. Upstairs rooms had balconies,

Perfect base for our short stop in Bled, in a very peaceful setting. Rooms were nice and clean, and breakfast was fine too. We were also able to borrow some bikes to cycle round the lake which was a good way to see it from all angles.
