It was recommended to us, that we visit Lake Bohinj. It is about 27Km from Bled. We were so glad that we did, it is absolutely outstanding. Lake Bled is beautiful with the Castle high on the hill and the church on the island but all around the lake is a lot more commercialised. Lake Bohinj is much more of a natural untouched beauty. The water is so clear and inviting, the air is so clean and fresh.
At one end of the lake (end nearest Bled) across the stone bridge, sitting on the edge of the lake/Sava Bohinjka river sits the church of Saint John the Baptist. It is quaint old medieval church. It is worth a visit inside to explore it's basic, simplistic charms. The walls and ceilings are covered 15th-16th frescoes.
A must visit place if you are in the area.
