“Great walk”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

Excellent, albeit pricey (for Poland) restaurants. On the side alleys are great pubs, shot bars etc. for those more interested in nightlife.

“Great bakeries, bars”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

While this area is renowned for being the trendy area where young people go to have a drink, there's so much more here than just bars. There are a lot of great bakeries and coffeeshops here and while prices here might be slightly higher than other places in the city, usually the quality makes up for it

“A quick summary of Warsaw's history”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Walk the Nowy Swiat avenue and see everything that's important to the Polish people: a monument to Copernicus, a bench that plays Chopin, the Warsaw university, the confection shop that once made the best jam doughnuts in Warsaw (now too commercialised, tiny, expensive, and the quality very hit-and-miss).

“Main Street of Warsaw”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

This is a bustling main street which leads to the Old Town. All types of shops are found here from Starbucks to A. Blikley - the most famous Polish bakery that was established in 1869. The Church of the Holy Cross, which is the keeper of Chopin's heart, is on this street. Fresh flowers adorn his heart's tomb as well as where his family used to live. The Copernicus monument and Warsaw University are also found here. Little parks are found off this street, too. It's a nice place to people watch and spend some time.

“A debonair street”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

It is nice to walk down Nowy Swiat, most especially round Christmas time when the decorations (tastefully, and not over-done) are up.
Many places to eat, snack, drink, relax and look at, including the Blikle coffee shop, with its famous paczki - delicious!
A little bit of generally unknown history here is that there are only two trees down the whole street. These were among the many trees which used to line old Nowy Swiat until the Nazis levelled the city, and were the only ones left standing. The person whose job it was to renovate the street after the war had to bribe the workmen with a bottle of vodka in order to preserve these two monuments, as he wanted there to still be a part of the old Warsaw growing, whereas they had been planned to be cut down. This is why they may seem appear out of place, only two on the whole street and seemingly growing askew from the sides of cafes.

For those looking for a taste of 'real' or 'grittier' Warsaw watering holes after taking in all the twee bars round Stare Miasto can walk through the disused walkway near the end of the street (I think around number 22) and come up on a small row of unnamed bars known locally as The Pavilions or Secret Garden
