“A very nice hotel”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I have just returned from 3 nights at the Metropol and I was very happy with the place. I took a taxi from Chopin airport, which was 40 PLN and walked into a nice bright, airy, clean reception area. Check-in was quick and efficient and all the reception staff I dealt with were polite, courteous and spoke decent English. They were more than happy to help with any enquiries, such as directions, and maps.

My room was on the 8th floor and it was not too small but not the biggest I have ever stayed in. The main thing, though, is that it was warm and clean. It had a TV, small wardrobe, writing desk and a clean bathroom, with a decent shower, which can be hard to find, at times. The beds were changed every day and the linen was freshly laundered and my bed was very comfortable.

On ther ground floor was the Metro Jazz Bar and Bistro, which is where a very good breakfast was served, each morning. There was a good choice of cereals, meats, cheeses, juices and breads, along with hot food like sauges, bacon and scrambled egg. There was a coffe machine and a decent selection of teas, also. I did not use the restuarant, for an evening meal, so cannot comment on the standard of the food but, if the meals are of the same quality as the breakfast, then it would be money well spent.

The hotel was in an area very close to the Place of Culture, with Centrum metro stop just across the road, which made getting round town very easy. With 10 to 15 minutes, there were a number of bars and restaurants and Warsaw Centralna station was only 300 metres down the road.

Overall, I would recommed this hotel, as it suits both the business traveller and tourist, alike.

Stayed there for two nights in November, rooms and bathrooms are clean though not very big. Small Tv. Busy reception. Poland has now a no smoking policy but you could smell the cigarretes in the corridor and the room- the walls are basically soaked in this odour.
Plus- location, close to the city centre, but busy.

Cannot comment on food as didn't eat there.

The room seemed to be a bit overpriced, but everything in Warsaw is.

Quite nice city hotel with an average service level. The propery is not modern and some of the rooms and especially bathrooms need to be refreshed. My room was generally comfy and clean, enough for only one night stay. Strange smells in the room. There is no free WiFi, no tea/coffee facilities. The staff were friendly and nice during my stay. The location is good and central.

What a wonderful hotel and far better than a 3 star. All the staff spoke excellent English and were really happy and friendly. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and well heated. I was amazed at what value it was. I booked through Expedia at £32 a night for a double on suite. Great location next to the central metro and only a few minutes walk from the main central railway station with easy access to airports. Lovely soft clean linen, duvet and pillows. The bed was really comfy. Brilliant stay. Top tip, ask for a high floor so you don’t hear traffic.

Room Tip: High Floor

I had a 2-night stay and found that the Metrpol was ideally situated for public transport and Warsaw Central rail station. (The day ticket for all public transport is a great bargain.)
Location apart, I thought the hotel was first class in every way. My room (5th floor) was well-furnished and comfortable. Everything was clean and tidy, and the daily complementary mineral water was a nice touch. Both the bath and the hanging space in the wardrobe were on the small size, but this is nit-picking.
The requested morning call on my departure day turned out to be a friendly knock on the door.
The group performing in the hotel's jazz bar (Tuesdays) were good and deserved a bigger audience.
However, the real highlight was the breakfast. Certainly the best I have ever experienced in a mid-range hotel in quality and quantity, (although I exclude the orange juice from this praise!).

I stayed here for two separate nights, so experienced two different rooms. Both were clean, beds comfy, with a couple of bottles of mineral water and a sewing kit in the cupboard (always a bonus!).

The shower in the first room was completely defective, and there was a choice between an ice-cold shower, a hot bath, or a top and tail wash. I had left showering until the last minute so I didn't have time for a bath. I told the staff when I checked out and they were terribly apologetic and said they would have fixed it immediately had I told them (but there hadn't been time - my fault, not theirs). In fact, someone came and found me in the breakfast room to give me a free drink voucher - very good customer service!

The second room seemed a bit superior, maybe slightly more modern, to the first, although was terribly marred by having the much larger window obliterated by the most gigantic piece of advertising which covers a huge portion of the front of the hotel. This, to my mind, is a serious error of judgement on the part of the hotel. Road noise seemed pretty loud in the second room, not least because there was some incredibly penetrating one-man works going on in the middle of the roundabout below around midnight. However, I slept like a baby.

The breakfast was amazing - wonderful selection of cheese (don't miss the bowls of cream cheeses, which are stunning), and delicious scrambled eggs. There was a lovely piano in the breakfast room/bar/restaurant and live jazz on the first night I stayed there. I was not at all sure why the ground floor toilets required hotel room card to open them, which was slightly irritating.

Wi-fi was okay (bit slow) and I requires a code which you have to ask for. It wasn't clear to me whether guests have to pay for this or whether the people who organised our business trip picked up the bill.

This was all pre-booked as part of a business trip, so I can't comment about the price/value etc.
