“difficult to find fault with it except the precooked bacon”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

OK... if you insist. There's some smokers next to the entrance. The bar on the ground floor works at slow speed. There's no place to relax and enjoy a drink.

Now...

Arrive and a uniformed doorman is likely to open your taxi door. Check in is quick, polite and to the point. Unfortunately they were out of clean rooms just them (1 in the afternoon) so I handed my luggage to a concierge (took seconds to do) and went to the bar for a sandwich and a beer.

Took a full 10 minutes for a beer to appear even though the place was very empty and another 5 for a very mediocre club sandwich. Probably the starbucks across the road would have been a better option. It would have been fitting their status of a 5 star if they came to find me in the bar once they had a room ready.

Anyway, 50 minutes later I was in 3507. Decor is rather 1990s American chic but well maintained. Room was very clean even in the easy to miss parts. A button on the phone promises a one call fix to all your problems. I had to use it twice to get a second blanket.
Beds are miles ahead of the synthetic back-unfriendly rubbish they have at the accor group. There's a water cooker and a mini-bar which features among other things condoms and tampons. Plenty of cosmetics in the bathroom including mouthwash.
Internet access in the room isn't free but it is wireless and pretty fast most of the time.
Airco is good, noise insulation for outside is excellent, for inside pretty good.

Breakfast has pretty much everything ever devised for that meal including miso soup and rice for the Asian guests. A cook doing omelets to order and a huge buffet of almost everything including wafers and a whipped cream dispenser. Only bad thing was the bacon, tasted and looked like it was precooked in a factory and reheated. Everything was exactly the same shade and I found 6 pieces still linked to eachother. Weird!

There's a bar on the 40th floor which should offer a nice view of the city. However that's spoiled by poorly placed interior lights which cause reflections so you can't see out all that much. A DJ is apparently necessary to prevent people from relaxing and enjoying a drink. That is something missing. The lobby bar is all marble and chrome and high ceiling and located on the side of the rest of the lobby which features more of that it also closes fairly early. The bar on the top of the building has all the atmosphere of a second rate nightclub.

I'd gladly have their beds and half of their breakfast buffet in any hotel, not sure if I'd return, I probably would if I could get a decent company rate negotiated by our travel desk.

It was a really good stay. The lounge at 38th is great and beautiful view, good food and service. I'd just recommend to improve gym ventilation / AC. It's a full gym and really good. Try the Radio Cafe nearby, awesome food and open until late.

I had arrived that morning at Chopin airport after an all night flight from the states . I had a premium economy seat but the airline seats were so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep let alone rest. The train from Chopin is 5 pln about $1.50. Have correct change. It goes non-stop to Warsaw Central - walk out the front door and there stands the Marriott - large room, immaculate, ice cold and ready for me to recover from the flight. I found the staff helpful throughout. This Marriott was a welcome site on arrival in Warsaw. Time to move on it was an easy walk across the street to the train station. What else could you want.

Room Tip: All rooms are on floors beginning at 21 so you are well above the noise.

Overall the hotel is very nice. A good location and extremely clean inside.
I would like to start with the parking, don't even think about parking in the hotel car park. They charge around £2 per hour. We parked there for an hour and found out that there was parking available next to the hotel for free because it was a weekend.
The check in was good, we asked for a good room and got one on the 39th floor. The views from the room were amazing, you could see for miles. My daughter had a bath and on trying to empty the water the plug wouldn't open. We called reception and they sent up an electrician for some reason. Anyway we had to be moved rooms because it was broken. Overall the room was lovely, very clean and the most important thing is it felt homely. The reception told us someone would be up to help us with our bags, well all we got was a porter standing out our door giving the new key and telling us the new room was on the 34th floor. We got into our new room and to our surprise we were downgraded. It was a smaller room, never had dressing gowns like the previous and never had complimentary water. I was always under the impression if there was something wrong with a room in the hotel that wasn't down to you, you would get a different but same room or be upgraded, not in this hotel.
I would also like to point out the really annoying point that there wifi is not free either, a five star hotel without free wifi, what a joke.
The breakfast was really good the next morning, had a wide selection for everyone.
The reason I'm not giving a five star is because of the points I raised, you let your selves down marriot with just a few basics. It should be free parking for your paying guests, free wifi for your paying guests and the most basic of all a room upgrade due to being moved because of a faulty room.

Dear ScottWindsor,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we appreciate your comment.
The garage does not belong to the hotel. Therefore we do not have any influence in regards to the cost. You are right there are many other parking alternatives in walking distance to use which offer parking for free during the weekend or at a lower price.
We have WIFI in the entire building. As of June 1st we provide complimentary WiFi in our lobby as well as food and beverage outlets.
We hope to welcome you soon again.

The guy at check in didn’t provide any information regarding breakfast or facilities-we had to ask. Other staff were more helpful, especially the concierge. Watch out for the taxis-the ones standing outside the hotel are usually the ones which charge higher rate per km. This can vary from 1.40 to 4 zloty per km.
We had a standard room which was fine-quite spacious and fairly well soundproofed for the inside hotel noise. Clean enough though not perfect. The bathroom fittings are a bit tired and there were pieces of marble stones poked out.
The safe is a decent size but not sure it would fit a laptop. There is an iron and ironing board which is great.
Very well stocked minibar though this is the first hotel I ever stayed in where minibar selection included condoms-not quite sure what to think of it!
The bar on the top floor was nice and the views were amazing. I would not choose to spend the whole evening in the bar as the crowd was a strange mix of very young locals and foreign pensioners but it is worth having a drink to enjoy the view.
It’s a good location with underground station and tram right outside and about 10 to 15 mins walk to the lovely street Nowy Swiet with all its bars and restaurants.
However as it’s a tall building all the sound from the outside resonates –we were on the 27th floor and on Saturday night there was some concert near by (as room service informed me when I called them to ask)-we could hear the music till about 2am-it sounded like there is a party next door.
All in I would probably stay again as it’s decent Marriott standard, good location and very cheap. I would probably go for a rate without breakfast as this was a real disappointment-chaotic, messy and half stocked. There is Starbucks across the road and not too far are many nice little cafes serving cakes and coffee.

Dear beehappybe,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we appreciate your comment.

The taxis outside the hotel are all normal taxis which are indeed vary in price per km, in general between 2.40 & 3 PLN per kilometer.

We would appreciate if you share with us at which date you had the negative breakfast experience. Like this we would have the chance to investigate what happened to make sure that you will have a better experience, next time. We get a lot of positive comments about our breakfast in terms of variety and quality and would like to show you that we can do better.

Thanks.

The hotel is in great location. Very nice room with very nice view (ask for high floor).
Breakfast is very rich. There is a casino if one is interested. Next to a big shopping center and train station.
The room is big and clean.
