I was so amazed by the medieval altar and religious pieces. We are well traveled and this collection was amazing. The entire museum is well worth your time. Beautiful art work, tapestries, glass work, and gold work.

We had a couple of hours to burn late on a Sunday afternoon. We went here with the expectation of just walking through and give the place a chance.
We did the Medieval wing first. This was worth the price of admission and then some. Most gorgeous carved wooden folding altars that I have ever seen. I am generally not a fan of Medieval art but this stuff is historic.
Much of the Polish paintings are interesting and worth seeing. The whole museum was a great surprise.

Museum's nondescript building hides inside three floors filled with large collections. Temporary exhibition in April 2017 is called ’Journey to Edo’ which included ukiyo-e prints from Japanese landscape. This collection has artworks mainly by Hiroshige and Hokusai.

The Medieval Art gallery includes religous artworks from 14th to 16th centuries. These artworks especially from Dutch masters reveal the affluence visible in the Polish churches during that time period.

The gallery of Old Masters has a vast collection of artworks from Italian, Flemish, Dutch, German and of course Polish artists. The collection includes even treasures from Botticelli and Rembrandt.

Museum’s cosy cafe serves delicious cakes. The entrance to the cafe is from the inner yard.

There has been a huge effort to modernise the displays in this museum which is definitely worth a visit. The entrance fee includes the audio-guide which is available in several languages and highly recommended. The galleries I would particularly recommend are: the Faras gallery which contains frescoes from a Nubian monastery which Polish archaeologists helped salvage during the building of the Aswan damn and I have not seen any comparable art in Europe; the medieval art gallery which has some fantastic altar-pieces combining painting and sculpture; the gallery of European art which has only been recently opened and combines painting and applied art (furniture, clothes, porcelain, etc) from the Renaissance and Baroque in some fascinating displays. The museum also has some very good temporary exhibitions and recently I have seen one of Chinese art and the life of an intellectual, and another of Japanese prints. There is a restaurant downstairs and a good cafe in the adjacent courtyard to the museum entrance.
