Owner description: Sixteenth-century fortress, forming part of the medieval fortifications around the city of Warsaw, used to guard the northern entrance to the city, the Novomeijska Gate.

Forming the Citadel around old Warsaw The Barbican is a great place to start a walk around The walls of the medieval city. Walking from Old town I had totally missed it. I turned around and OMG! City-walk Warsaw either requires you leave data on or you miss out on great sites.

The whole fortification area of old warsaw has been made into an amazing park and viewing area. The Barbakan is no different. There are usually little illegal vendors in the barbakan, but you can still see the amazing structure and imagine guarding said structure. Unfortunately, it was only used ones during the siege of Swedes - when swedes took Warsaw and then used it to defend against the Polish who were trying to take back Warsaw.

Great historical wall and gates. It's like walking back in time. Wall and gates tell the story of the kings and their defenses.
Enjoyed the old time feel.

I had to walk through Barbakan every time I visit Warsaw. It just takes you back in time .
The souvenir peddlers are annoying to me - but if you never been there - you can actually purchase very unique art that cant be found anywhere else.

Warsaw was completly destroyed by Hitler at second world war and was rebuilted exactly as it was.The within the walls old town, with the small lovely square, the cafe, restaurants, souvenir-shops,the hourse-carriages, the colourful houses, all this, with the red colour old-walls, make the
old-town of Warsaw so attractive. You can also have a panoramic view of the impressive stadium of Warsaw and Vistoulas river, not ofcourse so beautiful as seems to be in Krakow.
