I had 2 major problems with this museum:
1. The layout is just appalling, making it very difficult to walk though as intended.
2. There is simply too much - almost every inch of every wall is covered in the "exhibits", making for total overload.
Better signage and a "less is more" approach would have made for a better experience.

Here are some photos from the Uprising Museum in Warsaw. As Americans, we have so much to be thankful for. Further, we know so little about the suffering of others at the hands of megalomaniacs like Hitler and oppressive governments under Soviet rule. I hope this gives you a better appreciation as I never knew the sheer devastation that the people of Warsaw endured in the summer of 1944.

The Warsaw Uprising was a major operation during World War II in the summer of 1944 by the Polish underground resistance led by the Home Army. The Uprising was timed to coincide with the retreat of the German forces from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. The Uprising lasted for 63 days with little outside support and is still considered the single largest military effort taken by any European resistance movement during WWII. In the end, Hitler had the city leveled in retaliation leaving Warsaw completely in ruins.

This is an exceptional museum which tells the story of the people of Warsaw who rose up in arms against the German occupiers on August 1, 1944. Sadly, little outside support was receive and the uprising ended in early September. The German army took revenge out on the city by destroying buildings, churches and memorials that hadn't already been damaged during the war. The museum does an excellent job of telling the story leading up to, during and after the uprising using videos, thousands of artefacts and informative storyboards. You do have to be extremely careful while you wander through the museum, particularly on the upper floors as it is easy to make a wrong turn and mess up the timeline. Watch for the numbers and use the map you were provided with upon entry.

We visited the museum on Sunday - we didn’t know it would be so packed, but probably it was because Sundays are free of charge. Nevertheless, the exhibits and the interior design are amazing. You can definitely feel like you take time travel and it leaves an unforgettable trace in your head. That’s how you should learn history.

A very atmospheric Museum that goes a long war towards recreating what happened here in 1944. I would certainly recommend a bait and the price is very reasonable.
