Hotel Gromada Torun
Ranked #16 of 24 Hotels in Torun
Reviewed May 15, 2013

Oh, Hotel Gromada, we thought you were the most perfect hotel but...

Let's start at the beginning. We paid a ridiculously low rate for this hotel and weren't expecting much. But we were blown away. The room was good-sized, fantastic, and everything you could ask for, with a large bed (2 twins pushed together), a great view of the street below, a perfectly serviceable bathroom (complete with a full-sized hairdryer you can borrow from the front desk), and the whole thing was cleaned to within an inch of its life. Sure, the decor was very dated but that doesn't really matter when you consider you have your eyes closed for most of the time spent in the room.

In addition, the location is perfect, right in Old Town and steps from the river. The staff we encountered were all super cheery and professional. Breakfast was the traditional buffet and a good value.

But. A tragic, tragic flaw we discovered with this hotel (and it may have been an isolated incident - I don't know) was the street noise. And we aren't usually light sleepers or disturbed easily. As mentioned before, our room faced the street and just below us was a popular outdoor terrace bar where, even with our windows and curtains shut tightly, we could hear every laugh, conversation, chair movement, and shriek. This went on until about 3:00 am, when the party mercifully ended.

So I would recommend you see if there is a room away from the street to be had. Seriously, we loved everything about this hotel (except the sleeping part) and wish we could find more tremendous values like this in our travels. But the noise wasn't insignificant and had to be factored into this review, which is why we very sadly had to give it a 3-bubble review, although we so desperately wanted to give it 5.

Very good hotel just 200m from the Main Square of Torun and from the House of Copernicus. Clean, super-friendly staff (survived our group coming for a stag party), fabulous breakfast. Don't know what else you could want for a great city break!

16 of us stayed here during Euro 2012 and boy were we lucky. From the moment we arrived until the day we left 14 days later we couldnt have asked for a better hotel to stay in Beautiful Torun. The rooms were good not 5 star but were perfect for what we paid. Breakfast was great every morning and they would cook your eggs anyway you wanted with a hot and cold buffett to set you up for the day. Its a bit noisy at the front but its handy if you fancy a late drink in Kade acroos the road.

Everywhere is just a stroll away with the river just through the Sailors Gate and the Old Square just a short walk up the Street. I have been back since in October 2012 and the hotel was still fantastic. The 2 girls on Reception Anna and Marta were exceptional and every request was dealt with a smile 2 amazing girls who helped us all out so much over our time there.

Spend more than a day in Torun and let its magic cast a spell over you one of the most beautiful and friendly Citys i have ever had the pleasure of Visiting.

Room Tip: The Rooms at the back are quieter but the street noise is nowhere as bad as is made out.

6th visit to Torun. Stayed in room 212 which overlooked street. Can get very noisy as there are three drinking places across the road. Really good situation for getting into the old town. Breakfast not as good as other places I have stayed with only scrambled egg and frankfurters as the hot choice everyday but hot and scrummy with cold meats etc also. Only honey and marmalade for the bread and no fruit. Buy jam and fruit at local stores if you want them.
Room cleaned everyday. No hot drinks facility in room. Water bottles are refreshed daily. Go to reception for a hair dryer. Staff are really nice. Parking is there but very limited. Hotel a very short stroll to the river. If you are getting a bus outside area, go to the main bus station and for local ones, buy tickets at kiosks. Over 65 travel free with identification. There are trams also. Great places to eat for all diets. Christmas markets start around November in the town. I would stay at this hotel again.

Right in the centre of the old town, staff are pleasant, breakfast fine, rooms are basic but the shower worked even if the soap reminded me of 1970's public lavatories in the UK and the window to the room did not shut properly. The bed was comfortable enough. What more do you want?!

Room Tip: Don't go for a single - my friend did and his bed was not comfy and he will usually sleep anywhe...

Gromada Hotel in Torun is located in the heart of the old town, just a few steps from the main market square. Room was fine, clean but very hot. Breakfasts are OK. There is no parking. Good value for money.

I stayed here during the Euro 12 along with plenty of other Itish fans. The Hotel is in a great location Its set in a listed building down by the river Rooms were clean neat if old and functional. Rooms on the fornt were very noisy as tour guides bring groups to the outside during the day
As I arrived at 4am check in was smooth and swift and i was into bed with in minutes Breakfast was ok but a bit repiticious Very cheap for a 3* hotel Thay did not jack up the price for the Euros unlike other cities. The staff were great especially both recepionists who were very helpful in booking other accomodation anytime I was moving for games. You certainly get more than you pay for here

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms at the front The streets are very noisy as there is an open air pub outside
