A walk across the very busy road bridge takes you to a really tranquil island onwhich the the Cathedral stands surrounded by other buildings associated with the church. Although not a fully pedestrian area, there is no through traffic so it is a very pleasant area to walk around. The streets are wide and tree-lined and, even in early Spring, are very different from the nearby main roads. Walking across the bridge to approach the island also gives good views of the older parts of the city as well as of the river and the Cathedral. Tick it off while you're in Poznan
