When I got directions on Google maps this budget hotel appeared to be walkable from the Hotel Grand, a landmark I knew on Piotrkowska Street. It was raining hard and and after walking quite a way I ended up taking a taxi. It claims to be 500 meters from Piotrkowska street but this hostel is a long way from central Lodz and for some reason Google maps plots the directions from Ibis Hotel, not the Grand.
On the positive side the receptionist was charming, friendly, and very helpful. The hostel is modern and very clean. My room had two sofa beds, bed linen, a TV, and a wash-stand - there was a shared bathroom which I did not inspect. They have a restaurant which seems to be reasonably priced but I didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food. The room price was as cheap as I have seen anywhere in Lodz
On the down side, this hostel is a long way from anywhere (unless you have friends at Lodz Polytechnic next door). The view from the window was of an unmade-up car park and a derelict factory. The free Wi Fi was ok for the first twenty minutes then dropped out completely - I could not work at all. I spent an hour and a half at Boutique tops then took a taxi back to the centre of town. Friends in Lodz had never heard of the street Boutique is on and had to look it up.
If you want to see Lodz this is a very out of town location to start from
