I would warmly recommend this place for people who are interested in excellent, original hearty Polish food.
"Karczma u Chochola", situated quite a bit down south on Lodz's main shopping & party street "Piotrkowska", has an original, rustic, old-fashioned design, with the waitresses and waiters dressed in traditional Polish outfits. It is not at all a tourist trap though, as the costumes and decoration could make you think. In fact, the place is, in my experience, mostly attended by locals or Polish people from elsewhere.
I would recommend to take one of their fantastic soups as a starter - don't shy away from the tripe soup which is truly excellent - well, in fact all the soups are just great. For the main course, you should definitely go for meat - anything is good here, I went many times. I particularly liked roulade; and I would recommend potato dumplings as a side order. I haven't ever managed to get to the deserts - but they all look good for sure.
