“Great Stay in a Great Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Stayed at this hotel for two nights with my wife and two children (8 and 10). The location of the hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the main town square (which is said to be the 2nd largest square in Europe). The hotel itself is right off the main street, but is very well kept and parking is available there. It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotel group which tells you something there. Prices are very reasonable and they have a nice breakfast buffet. The Hotel reception staff was wonderful and upon check in upgraded our room. The suite we stayed in had two stories with two large bathrooms and kitchenette and was easily large enough to accomodate 4-5 people. The only downside at all in the hotel is that the alcoholic drinks at the bar and in the room mini bar were far more expensive than those at the nicest restaurants downtown. The hotel also offers spa services. The downtown is great and has all sorts of cultural and leisure activities and is worth the visit. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in a neat town.

Room Tip: Room 48 was great as it had two stories and had great window views.

We didn't really enjoy our stay at the Granary for the following reasons:

+ Not a great location - between a run down apartment building and a school playground. Our view overlooked the car park and the garbage area of the adjacent apartment building on one side and the school on the other.
+ The hotel didn't have our reservation even though we booked through Platinum Amex and had paperwork to prove it.
+ The lobby is poorly designed and uninviting. A maid was constantly mopping the stairs at the entry with disinfectant and it smelled of cheap and nasty cleaning product.
+ We had double storey suite rooms at the top of the hotel. This had a lounge above and a bedroom below. The arrangement didn't work well as the space was disjointed. The lounge/dining area might work for a corporate meeting but definitely didn't have a cosy feel about it. We never used it during our stay.
+ The extensive windows were dusty and grubby (fault of the architect not the hotel) and there was a myriad of blinds to operate to shut out the oppressive sun and heat. I'm sure in winter these rooms would be freezing.
+ The room was hot and stuffy - the air conditioning laboured.
+ The bed linen was OK but no down pillows.
+ The bathroom was small with a shower over a corner bath - difficult to access and use.
+ The parking area adjacent to the hotel was pot holed and dusty.

Some positive aspects of the hotel included a nice restaurant on the ground level. Good breakfast and pleasant staff.

We went and took a look around the Monopol Hotel - which was fully booked during the time of our stay in Wroclaw. This really is a quality design hotel and I would recommend this hotel over the Granary if you are use to a boutique designer hotel. The Monopol has very elegant rooms and an amazing roof top restaurant and bar.

The Granary is a very cool place to stay, with nice and spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and a helpful staff (though we ended up having very little interaction with them).
A couple of comments: First, the hotel is located a short walk away from Wroclaw's old town, which is convenient. But it's kind of in the middle of a rundown area that is not very inviting. Once you're inside the hotel, you forget about the surroundings but it's a rather unfortunate choice of neighborhood. Second, I reserved our room through bookings.com and breakfast was not included in the price. The hotel was asking 70 zloty per person for breakfast, which is about 16 euro per person. Ouch! That strikes me as quite expensive, no matter how awesome the food. We paid less than half that for a very nice breakfast at our hotel in Gdansk. I am not pushy and didn't ask for them to throw in breakfast for us or even just reduce the price, but I think they might want to reconsider their price.
They have a small car park if you are driving, which I appreciated. It's a little tight getting in and out of it so if you're driving a big LandRover you may want to park elsewhere.

I returned to the Granary after a couple of years away from Wroclaw. It was still a stylish and impressive option.
The hotel is a renovated old Granary that lay in disrepair for many years. The old red brick and moodily lit areas give a good feel, especially in summer when I visited.
The desk staff provided excellent and attentive service working to help make me comfortable as I settled in. The staff spoke good English and have an attitude and demeanor fitting of a top end hotel.
The rooms are spacious, stylish and clean. The maids do a good job, but occasionally do not leave as many towels as they removed (pet peeve in hotels).
The parking has improved with an additional parking area next to the hotel in an unpaved lot, this is in addition to the very tight paved parking area that gives you about 3 mm on either side of your average Touareg/Range Rover to maneuver.
There is a public pool next door and a short walk to the Rynek/Town Square for all the action and night life.
I suggest the roof of the monopol hotel for a good cocktail and a great view on a summers day. Try the OK wine bar for good food and wines by the glass and Le Bistrot Parisien for French.

I stayed in one of the big two-level rooms upstairs. It was huge (really too big, since I was by myself!) but it's beautifully done. Everything here is very stylish, new, and very tastefully done. Service was excellent - everyone I encountered was top-notch and went out of their way to help me. Location is nice - in a very quiet alley, just a 5-minute walk to the Market Square. If I had any complaint at all it's that it was a little *too* quiet. The place sort of has zero-energy going on - people in the lobby whisper. But when Market Square is a bustling, noisy place, being able to come back to your quiet room at the Granary is very nice indeed.

We (couple + 14 year old son) stayed in a ground floor room with a high vaulted ceiling in April. Spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable as was our sons sofa bed. Most hotels in Europe seem to overheat their rooms, we were unable to turn down the airconditioning in our room at the Granary, so we opened the door onto the patio for some fresh air. The hotel was a few minutes walk to the main square.
Breakfast was OK, buffet was a bit ordinary and limited, but eggs/omlette made to order were good. The staff were attentive.
We loved the character of this hotel, and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have the original brick vaulted ceilings and open out onto a patio (common area...

I stayed in room no. 22 and could not have been happier! Very nice bed, very nice bathroom, all what you could probably wish! Excellent sleep! Very good breakfast and the staff is most helpful. Free business corner with computer and printer, good if you want to print out your boarding pass. Free wifi. Recommended!
