We booked to stay at this apartment for a group of four in October 2017, for a 5 night city break in Wroclaw.
The apartment looked ideal for us when we prebooked it, however it soon became apparent that this was not the case as soon as we arrived here.
Despite the apartment being well situated (close to the Renoma shopping center), it is actually accessed through a backstreet alleyway that is not well lit and has a really bad odour. The apartment block itself is like something from the Soviet Union - very old, dark and run down. Apartment 2212 is located quite a few floors up, and with no lift, you are left to pull your luggage up the staircases in pitch black darkness. It is very unpleasant, especially with the smell of urine and tobacco in the building.
Things only got worse when we got up to the apartment. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a hallway in which the laminate flooring was scraped and pulled up in various places, which is obviously a trip hazard and doesn't create a great first impression. We were tired and wanted to rest, but the problems inside the apartment made this impossible.
It is advertised that the apartment can sleep four people, but this would prove impossible considering that the sofa bed (which was badly tattered and ripped, flakes of sofa on the floor and inside the storage compartments) did not pull out at all. Even the lady from Penguin Rooms could not get the bed to pull out when we later phoned for assistance. The room with the sofa bed also has a coffee table, which has huge holes in it and is scratched to bits. The WiFi router is also in this room, but don't even bother with it because it just does not work - even though working Internet access was advertised with the apartment. Some lights in this room also did not work.
If it sounds bad already, it gets worse. The double bed in the next bedroom would also be impossible to sleep on. Not only was the mattress extremely springy, but the bed itself was actually held up by a stool and duct tape - yes, really. I can accept that accommodation won't look as good as in the photos of it, but this was just ridiculous. This room also had cracks in the wall and loose plug sockets - this was also a problem in the other rooms.
We were initially surprised in the kitchen as Penguin Rooms had provided us with soap and washing up liquid, but it soon became apparent that the kitchen also had its problems. Plug sockets were loose in here too and the freezer was fully frozen up. In fact, some freezer compartment trays had been dumped in a wardrobe on the hallway. The curtains in the kitchen did not close fully.
Probably the room with the least problems in the apartment was the bathroom. There weren't too many problems in here and it is nice to have a bath. The sink was cracked however, as well as the flooring.
Luckily, we managed to find an alternative rental in a more central location - AbsyntApartament. This was perfect for us and we managed to find an apartment that was available one hour after booking online. We had given up after multiple phone calls to Penguin Rooms to try and sort out the problems. The good people at TripAdvisor sorted out a partial refund for us. It's understandable that accommodation looks better in images, but this is NOTHING like advertised. Avoid and find somewhere cheaper in a better location.
