“Surprisingly awesome!”

I was amazed that the number one attraction in zakopane was a cemetery!! But I can totally see why. It's like stepping back in time. A magical grotto of artisan memorials and very evocative. We spent a good amount of time exploring and taking photos. Highly recommended!!

“magic place”

It's a true historical oasis in the downtown of the city, right next to Krupowki. Even for my husband, who hates cemetaries, this place was incredible.

“Worth visiting!”

Pęksowy Brzyzek's name comes from its founder, Jan Pęksa who offered the land located on a high cliff ( cliff = brzyzek in highlanders' dialect). The cemetery is over 160 years old.
There are tombs of famous Polish writers, artists, poets, mountain guides and mountain rescue team members, all well known in Polish culture and history. Almost all of the graves represent a unique work of art that cannot be found anywhere else in the country, but in Podhale region.
