“Fantastic Friendly Hotel”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stayed in the Columbus over a very snowy Easter weekend in Krakow. The welcome we received at the hotel was great, and the staff were incredibly friendly and spoke good english. I felt the decor was a little dark, with dark wood furniture and brown curtains and a 70's style brown and orange swirly carpet (quite new), but the room was immaculately clean with a flat screen TV, nice bed linen, a huge bath (we had a room on the front of the hotel as these have baths), clean bathroom with shampoo, soap and shower gel provided.

The room was lovely and warm. We had room 27 which had a door out onto a little balcony (too little to stand on, but nice for some fresh air). I'd taken ear plugs but found no problems with noise - the trams stop through the night and they were not very noisy anyway. The breakfast was really good, with a nice selection including bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, they would also cook boiled or fried eggs if you wish. Again, lovely friendly staf who kept the room nice and clean, and stocks replenished. Another bonus was that breakfast lasts till 10.30.

There's free wifi in the rooms and a computer for guests to use in the downstairs lounge. Mini bar prices were excellent too. There's no problem with leaving luggage if you have a later flight.

The hotel is in a good location, turn left and you are in the Market Square - around 10 minutes; turn right and you are in the Jewish quarter, and around 10 minutes to Wawel Castle. We walked to the Schindler Factory - around 15 minutes. Take careful note of the directions though - the signposting isn't great and you half to walk under a tunnel under a railway track which just looks like waste ground. Its worth a visit though.

One piece of advice - on arrival at Krakow airport, we got money from the autobank - which charged a 12% supplement. There are loads of autobanks in the city centre, with no supplement.

Food and drink in Krakow is excellent and extremely cheap. Because we had a cold, snowy weekend, I took full advantage of the hot wine!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have baths, but potential road noise - rooms at the back have showers but will be...

This was a birthday treat booked by my daughter so did not know what to expect, but what a great surprise. Very clean, towels changed every day and as stated previously very central. Breakfast was an added bonus as we did not expect this, there was a very good choice of hot and cold buffet, and you could have eggs cooked to your choice. All the staff were very helpful, especially the reception staff, who booked all our trips, to the young lads on the door who were also very good at giving directions. Only one down side was the noise from the trams but even this did not bother us too much after the first night. Would definitely stay at the Columbus again if we returned to Krakow.

Room Tip: Ask for room at the rear of the hotel

My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night stay. We decided to book this hotel based on the reviews we had read.
We had a room at the back of the hotel, so had no problems with noise. Our room was fine, lovely and clean, not the most attractive of rooms, but that's just a taste thing. The important thing of cleanliness is more important than the decor and I could not fault that. There is no tea/coffee facilities but the mini bar is well stocked and very reasonably priced, plus you can order hot drinks by room service.
It was a shame the hotel didn't have a restaurant for the evening but we found several good ones nearby.
Breakfast is ok, the basics are there.
The main things that make this hotel good are the friendly staff, cleanliness and the location.

This hotel is lovely, the rooms are spacious, warm and very well decorated. It is situated in the Jewish quarter which is great for quaint restaurants and bars and it is only a 20 minute walk or so to the main square!

Only issue we had was that we were situated in a room at the front of the hotel. Therefore if you are going to book I would suggest asking for a room at the rear. There is a tram stop at the front of the hotel in which trams run alllllll night!! It is very noisy almost like been on a airport runway!! We resorted to wearing our earphones from our ipod's!!Of course this is not the hotels fault but was a little annoying!! We did ask to move but the hotel was fully booked.

The hotels staff are very helpful, the breakfast is very tasty with lots of choice and we would definitely recommend staying here, especially for the location to attractions.

Visited Krakow in the week running up to Easter and stayed at the Columbus for 5 nights with my wife and daughter. As the earlier reviews have identified, the hotel is a short walk from the main square and just seconds from the very interesting and culinary delights of the Jewish quarter. The hotel also stands some 10 minutes walk from a decent shopping mall, though there are many shops and cafes on the street in which the Columbus stands, and a further 10 minutes to the Schindler Factory now an excellent WWII museum, but I detract from the hotel.

The staff are superb. Everyone is attentive and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Service with a smile and the breakfast is varied and plentiful enough to suit all tastes.
The level of decoration and cleanliness thoughout is very good and the rooms are well appointed. Do take advantage of the minibar which is well stocked and very reasonable.
I do take note that it can be a little noisy in the mornings, as others had indicated, but that did not detract from the overall excellent experience.

Too cold to sample the neat and welcoming garden to the rear but that maybe for another time.

I will return to Krakow to sample the delights of this wonderful city and I have little doubt I shall return to the Columbus Hotel. The management and staff should be proud of their achievements with this gem of a 3*. Dziekuje bardzo!

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear may be quieter but the charm of the street below at the front of the hotel had its...

We went in March 2013 - Krakow was freezing. The hotel is easily found and located on a main thoroughfare with a tram stop right outside. Located 12 mins walk from the Grand Square and 5 mins from the Jewish quarter - we walked everywhere from here without a problem.

The hotel itself is fantastic - we booked trips through Reception to Auschwitz, the Salt Mines etc the Staff were brilliant very helpful - polite - friendly nothing was too much trouble.

The rooms were spotlessly clean with en suite - well heated with unlimited piping hot water in the powerful shower.

The rates were great I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have trams going past until late - didn't bother us but may others.

We stayed for four nights in the Hotel in February. It was spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. There was a good selection for breakfast, although the scrambled egg was always on the cool side. I have to be honest and say that I didn't feel very comfortable walking round the area at night, and my husband and I tended to eat nearby the hotel. I had booked all our trips before I went, but the staff were very helpful. Our bedroom was at the back of the hotel which I had requested, and was very quiet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back. The trams run past the hotel at the front so might be noisy.
