We stayed in the Columbus over a very snowy Easter weekend in Krakow. The welcome we received at the hotel was great, and the staff were incredibly friendly and spoke good english. I felt the decor was a little dark, with dark wood furniture and brown curtains and a 70's style brown and orange swirly carpet (quite new), but the room was immaculately clean with a flat screen TV, nice bed linen, a huge bath (we had a room on the front of the hotel as these have baths), clean bathroom with shampoo, soap and shower gel provided.
The room was lovely and warm. We had room 27 which had a door out onto a little balcony (too little to stand on, but nice for some fresh air). I'd taken ear plugs but found no problems with noise - the trams stop through the night and they were not very noisy anyway. The breakfast was really good, with a nice selection including bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, they would also cook boiled or fried eggs if you wish. Again, lovely friendly staf who kept the room nice and clean, and stocks replenished. Another bonus was that breakfast lasts till 10.30.
There's free wifi in the rooms and a computer for guests to use in the downstairs lounge. Mini bar prices were excellent too. There's no problem with leaving luggage if you have a later flight.
The hotel is in a good location, turn left and you are in the Market Square - around 10 minutes; turn right and you are in the Jewish quarter, and around 10 minutes to Wawel Castle. We walked to the Schindler Factory - around 15 minutes. Take careful note of the directions though - the signposting isn't great and you half to walk under a tunnel under a railway track which just looks like waste ground. Its worth a visit though.
One piece of advice - on arrival at Krakow airport, we got money from the autobank - which charged a 12% supplement. There are loads of autobanks in the city centre, with no supplement.
Food and drink in Krakow is excellent and extremely cheap. Because we had a cold, snowy weekend, I took full advantage of the hot wine!
