Description: We will host you Honourable Dames and Sires, with a gladness in our hearts in the halls of a seventeenth century tavern with splendidly flavoursome food and drinks of all sorts. Our maids and lackey open the gate at noon and close them at 12 on dusk. Chy canst savour delicacies of the olden polish cuisine. And all these delicious bites should taste the finest when washed down with a quart of exquisite spirits. We will be delighted with your company. Thyncanst east in four chambers uniting ten dozen quests to the sounds of the ancient tunes of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. Crackling flames of blazing fire in the hearth will relocate thy back in time to the depths of Sienkiewicz's "With Fire and Sword". The letters of Scripture proclaim that when father and mother are no longer thy will listen thy uncle. Alas, as thy uncle, I tell you and swear a solenn oath that thou will not find more mouth-watering victuals and beverages in all the land of Poland and neither in Inflants. I now what I say stands true for I travelled the Inflants far and wide many a time

“Back to medieval Poland”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

Just across the Vistula river from where I live (when I am in Krakow), Ogniem i Mieczem for log time has been one of my favorite places to take my friends to. They are never disappointed. The medieval, rural Poland ambiance is great. The service is very good, the staff very helpful, suggesting good things that we actually are able to eat and finish (as the portions are huge). Try Pituch soup with extra bread and sausage helpings, try Pół Metra Żebra (half a meter ribs) which actually is about half a meter long. Try Golonko (one of my fav dishes) with horseradish or zurawina. Try Miodula - home made liquor. The setup of the place is very nice. It can become very noise as Miodula takes upper hand in patrons. You need a reservation to make sure you are not disappointed having to wait for long.

Certainly this is not a place for people who count every calorie. You must get ready and be very hungry to benefit from this restaurant. Hearty portions, Miodula and the ambiance will satisfy you for sure.

“Best Dinner in Krakow”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This place is away from old town so a taxi ride is needed. Having said that, this is by far the best traditional restaurant in Krakow. The food is amazing and the setting is straight out of history.
We tried the pork knuckle and duck with cherry sauce. The place also makes they own honey-vodka Miodula which is great.

What a charming restaurant! Great atmosphere and very friendly service. Huge - and very tasty - portions, so come hungry but don't forget to leave room for dessert and order the best apple pie you'll ever have!

“My eyes were bigger than my stomach!”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Lovely welcoming restaurant with great food - fantastic tasting and fantastic size servings! Our group of 4 ordered a selection of dishes and we shared them. The helpful waitress offered to suggest a good selection for us. I never knew cabbage, potatoes and carrots could taste so good. Don't be put off by some of the translations of food descriptions which include gems such as bread with grease - it really is absolutely delicious. Then a complimentary shot of the house speciality, honey vodka. The bill for 4 including beer and desert was about £17-18 a head, so really good value. A memorable meal with good ambience and a fascinating location, but we would agree that taking a taxi from the city centre is a good idea.
