“Restaurant Awful”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

We visited Krakow last week. We decided to eat at the Rubinstein Hotel. The hotel looked nice and we believed it would serve a top quality meal. Sadly we were mistaken; the food was awful. It was cold and everything was mashed or minced, I felt like I had no teeth.
The wine was very expensive, the same bottle in another hotel was the equivalent of £8 cheaper (40 Zloty).
The waiter constantly hovered around and quite frankly it was the worst meal and service I have ever had.
As a family we were very disappointed. It was the one bad event in what was a superb stay in Krakow.

I had booked a three night trip for my husband and I to visit Krakow and Auschwitz.

Having read all the really positive reviews before we left - I was a little worried that they would be 'too good to be true'.....and we would end up with a really dud room (not the first time!).

Anyway, I did make sure (following recommendations on Tripadvisor) to ask for a room on the top floor to avoid the noise of the street and I emailed to make sure we had a bathroom with both shower and bath. They had originally booked us in to a shower only room but agreed to change it after an exchange of emails. We were in room 405 which was lovely - large, spotlessly clean with a nice bathroom and really comfortable beds. I had three really good nights sleep which is unusual for me. The glass lift was also an unexpected treat.

However, I do agree with previous reviews about the particularly sullen faced reception staff - I don't think I saw even one of them crack a smile. The exception was the lovely waitress who served breakfast, she went out of her way to be helpful and super-efficient - even toasting bread for us when it is supposed to be self-service.

The location of the hotel is superb - I find the Jewish area of far more interest than the main part of Krakow which is very touristy. However everything is very walkable from the hotel - the Galicia Museum (a must) to Oscar Schindler's factory (fascinating - allow at least 2-3 hours) and also easily walkable into the Main Square in Krakow.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room on the fourth floor - Room 405 faces out on to the street at the back of...

First impression.
We reserved two rooms for a 4 night break. On arrival in the reception we were met by a rather unfriendly reception team. No warm welcome. Thrown registration cards to complete and our keys. The only member of staff who seemed to smile was the bell boy who offered to take our bags to our rooms.

The rooms.
This is where we felt let down. The rooms although on first impressions seemed ok, especially the well appointed bathrooms, on further investigation had a 'tired' appearance. Carpets worn and badly marked. The worst was the mattress cover, which was covered in large human functional stains.
Unfortunately we had a room on the first floor. Beware of excessive noise from the dining room below and the trams outside. Tables and chairs being 'dragged' around until late and from 5am in the Morning. We raised this with reception.

Location.
Great and no problems here. A good 15 minute walk to the market square but a pleasent one.

Staff.
Customer service from the front desk was appalling. No smiles. It came across as though your presence was an effort for them.

Breakfast.
Huge choice and always freshly stocked by the very friendly and efficient waitress. She was the only member of staff that made you feel welcome.

Would we return to this hotel again? Probably not. 4 star is a bold claim, but a very good 3 star!!

Krakow is a great city with plenty of quality hotels and apartments to choose from.

We went to Krackow,on Ryan air flight from East Midlands, for three days in Poland,Eight of us stayed at the Rubinstien,I would recommend that you book your seats on Ryan air! It's chaos.
The hotel staff and the hotel it's self, could not be faulted in any way.the location in the Jewish quarter was a lovely cobbled square surrounded by restaurants and cafe bars,it was a 20 minute walk into the main square of Krakow.there are electric tour carts who take anywhere in Krakow on a guided tour.the food in the restaurants was wonderful,as was in the hotel.we would definately use this hotel again

Room Tip: We had a superior room, but two had standard rooms, the difference was, slippers, dressing gowns, and ex...

Everything about this hotel was perfect- location, service, standards. Our room was on the third floor, bed was so comfortable and the room was of a decent size. Special mention to the shower- who helped us to relax and unwind after walking the miles and miles around Krakow and its various attractions!!!
10min walk into the main square and will organise pick-ups at the door if you want to visit Auschwitz (must-see), Wieliczka Salt Mine (also a must-see) and any other attractions and all for a very reasonable price.
Cannot praise the hotel highly enough and will definitely be heading back to both Krakow and the Rubinstein and would certainly encourage and recommend visitors to stay here if and when they visit Krakow.

I was here on a 4day visit my first in Poland. The purpose of my trip was to make a visit to the death camps. This Hotel was welcoming & very clean & I certainly would stay here again . The Hotel is small which is a nice change & all of the staff are English speaking & friendly. The breakfast was fine & I ate the other meals out as there is a large choice of places in the area to eat.

Room Tip: I stayed on the top floor which was nice & quiet
