“Lovely Little Hotel”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Chose this hotel for a few nights city break, and so glad we did. Situated in the Jewish Quarter of Krakow, it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, although it is only a short walk to the central square. We actually preferred walking around the Jewish Quarter, with its historical buildings and quirky little cafes and restaurants. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable, compact but not too small. The staff all spoke good English and were very helpful on things such as public transport and where places of interest were. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range from buffet to full fry up!! Only slight downside was the lack of lifts, as we were on the third floor, the climb up the stairs after a days trekking round the city certainly tested the leg muscles!! Also if you fancy an afternoon snooze the air conditioning from the premises next door gives off a vibrating hum, although this is turned off in the evening (I think this may affect our room only...number 22!!). Overall though a very nice hotel.

Dear Tony H,

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. It was our pleasure servicing your needs.

Thank you for your outstanding review, and kind words about our staff.

About room number 22. I hope you will forgive us all the inconveniences. I have checked vibrating hum and it was from restaurant. We already repaired and should be ok and quietly.

I hope that this small shortcoming did not discourage you and you will back to us so see you in Kraków :)

Kind Regards,
Julia Madej

Well staffed, well located in that it is right on the border between the gentrifying Jewish Quarter full of hip life-affirming cafes and restaurants while still having a bit of grit and the square, a nice culturally revealing walk at that.

Beyond location, the incredibly sweet staff was more than eager to please and that alone would make up for the lack of fridge, which I agree would be nice. Nevertheless, we loved the service for the price and liked the restaurant. Although I must say, the Mexican food was not very Mexican, but I am from Chicago where the Mexican population is the largest outside of Mexico City itself (also the largest Polish population outside of Warsaw), so I suppose I am spoiled....

Thanks Spatz, we hope to return.

Room Tip: As for the courtyard for quiet, high floor street for a city feel.

We have just got back from spending 4 nights at the Spatz hotel. Central location in the Jewish area. Our room was on the top floor overlooking the court yard. Room was air conditioned. Rooms are only cleaned on request but it wasnt a big deal. A small fridge would have been handy, tea & coffee making facilites in room. We didnt eat breakfast in the hotel but found a small cafe close by, cheaper! Staff very helpful when we wanted to know where trams & buses were.
we caught the train from the airport to Krackow (buy a ticket on the train, 32 plz for two people)
Visit the tourist infomation close to the hotel to find out about places to visit indepentently, much cheaper than going on an organised tour. Bus services very good and much cheaper. We caught a bus to Auschwitz one day from the bus station, a bus to the Salt mine and walked to the Ghetto & Schindlers Factory from hotel.
Krackow is one of the most interesting places I have ever been.

Room Tip: No lift! but I came home much fitter!

This hotel is located in the perfect place: still in the interesting area, but in a quiet place. The rooms are cozy, clean and comfy. Design and smell are good. The staff is the most welcoming and helpful possible. I do recommend this place.

The only minus was the floor in the room - it should be fixed.

I am just back from staying 5 nights in the Hotel Spatz. The hotel itself is very clean and staff are all very pleasant and helpful.

Our room was number 15 and was quite big, the bathroom was small but this wasn't a problem. The rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis, however we were informed of this on check in and they could be cleaned on request, which worked well for us. Our room was on the second floor and there is no lift, the staff were more than happy to help us with our luggage.

Attached to the hotel is Manzana restaurant and bar. We loved this, great mexican style food and cocktails in beautiful surroundings. Staff again were all very chatty and welcoming.

We had breakfast here a few mornings. 15zl for a buffet and cooked breakfast of your choice. It was basic enough but it was convenient for us.

The hotel itself is in the Jewish quarter and about a 15 minute walk from the main market square. We walked it most days but on occasion we used taxis which the hotel organised with no problems.

The only negative I can say about this hotel is the fact there was no air conditioning. The weather was very warm whilst we were here and the heat in the room was unbearable at times. We were provided with a fan and the windows do open wide but air con is definitley needed.

I would stay here again. Value for money, well situated, friendly hotel.

The room was very comfortable, nice and clean. The staff was really nice and polite with us.
The location is in Jew area (Kazimiers) and 15 minutes walking to the city center.
The hotel is a quite area, there isn't noise at night. However near you can find pubs and bars to have a drink.

Room Tip: The room 27 is very good and has air condition

Very well situated in the old Jewish quarter. It is a lively area with some great restaurants and bars and within 15 minutes stroll from the main square, to which it makes a nice alternative place to hang out. Miadowa Street, where the hotel is, has excellent tram links to get to all parts of Krakow, an the 75 tram also takes you to the bus station for the bus to the airport. Wawel Castle is nearby and Schindler's factory and the Jewish ghetto are not too far off either. The hotel has wifi and a nice bar and restaurant. The staff are helpful.

The only downside would be the lack of air conditioning. This may be an unfair comment as Poland possibly doesn't suffer from the need for air conditioning a lot of the time. However, when we went, it was very hot, and the local area is lively with bars and clubs apparently open all night, which with open windows can mean disturbed nights if you are a light sleeper. Ear plugs would cure this though.

In terms of value for money, I would say it is pretty good - a pretty high standard for a very reasonable price. I would be happy stay there again (with ear plugs in reserve).

Room Tip: It is in a lively area which is a great plus, but there is no air conditioning, so it may be wise to...
