A lovely hotel! We stayed for two nights.. Just off the Market Square and it was pretty faultless!! The spa downstairs is also worth a visit.. Don't forget your trunks!!
Would like to try another Likus Brothers hotel! Very stylish!!!

We attended a wedding in Poland and were at Hotel Stary for the reception. What a delightful building, amazing staff and incredible food. We loved the view of the city - having drinks on the roof and setting off Chinese lanterns was so magical. The food was so plentiful and so delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the experience.

My husband and I were visiting friends in Poland in Sept, 2012 and booked a room through Expedia for 4 nights at the Stary in Krakow. The hotel was a bit beyond our budget but it was a special trip, so we splurged to the tune of $245 a night. When we arrived, we were told that our room was not available because of construction but that they would book us at a comparable hotel in Krakow. That "comparable" hotel was the Holiday Inn. I certainly didn't see that as a "comparable" hotel and asked for a refund of our money. But as they had already booked us for one night, we left for the Holiday Inn. (See photos for the room the Stary booked for us.) As soon as we got to the Holiday Inn, we called both Expedia and American Express (we had paid for the room on our Amex card) and explained the situation. We were told to book subsequent nights on our own and to pay for them on our Amex card rather than to let the Stary pay for our room. I negotiated a price of about $130 a night, $115 less than what the Stary was charging a night. We called the manager at the Stary about 15 times over the course of our stay, always getting the same message: She was busy but would call us back in ........ She never returned our calls. We explained the situation to the manager at the Holiday Inn who also tried to contact the manager and got the same runaround. (The staff at the Holiday Inn was great.) After we returned to the States, we continued talking to American Express and to Expedia and always got the same message: As per your request, we have contacted the hotel; however despite our best efforts, they did not authorize us to process a refund."--this from Expedia. As we were talking about $737, I was not about to give up and considered this to be theft. It took about 25 phone calls to Expedia, conversations with 4 supervisors (you could never call one back), one manager and my demand to talk to Corporate Headquarters before I finally got my refund.

Now I'm not sure if I would vote this hotel so highly if it wasn't in such a beautiful city. The hotel is nice within a beautiful old building. Lots of time must of gone into the renovation of this old building. Unfortunately the rooms are small but you will spend very little time in the hotel opting to walking around the old town of krakow which is truly remarkable.

The hotel is located less than a minute from the old square.

The swimming pool is also one of a kind. Looks like a cave.
Krakow is great, and this hotel is top of the luxury list. Would I go back? Certainly.

The architecture, especially of internal part. is stunning, no doubts. Everybody must appreciate some design and technical solutions, causing, that the stay in hotel Stary is memorable and exceptional. The location is one of the best in the down town. Almost on the Main Square, but still a little bit in the side street. The SPA part, including small swimming pool is lovely and impressive. But that is the end of the hotel strengths. The rest is more faulty. Our suite, where we were upgraded after arriving, was dark and gloomy. The furnitures and curtains are too dark, like for the rooms with small windows, facing to the narrow backyard. The lamps are nice, but they are giving more impression, than light. The double bed is too low and in the bathroom there in not enough towel hangers or rails. The breakfast is served in the nice restaurant room. However, like for the 5 stars hotel, the food and beverages assortment looks pretty much ordinary. In spite of these weaknesses, hotel Stary deserves for the visit, even if you have to pay a lot of money for your stay.

We spent New Year in this hotel (2012/2013). Great location part of our deal inlcuded spa treatment which was excellent, and a dinner at the hotel. The spa is very clean and well laid out, and treatment was superb...great value for money. Dinner at the hotel was definately 5*. Bedrooms very comfortable. Breakfast lovely and plenty of choice. Overal I would return to this hotel as its location is 2 mins from the square. New Year in Krakow is excellent. We thought everything would be closed on the 1st but its still busy and most bars and restaurants were open.

Contemporary hotel just off the main square in Krakow. We had a junior suite (410) in the new wing of the hotel.
Overall a pleasant stay -the room was very large but a few niggles:
1) This was the top floor of this part of the hotel and had the airconditioning units on the roof above so we had a constant humming vibration 24/7, albeit it was not too loud it was difficult to get to sleep when one needed some peace and quiet.....
2) |It was not possile to lock the door from the inside via a door lock or chain so technically it was possible to gain access to the room, especially as the are now kits on the internet that can hack electronic hotel keys!
3) Lack of towel hanging facilities -there were two hooks for bathrobes (at the other end of the bathroom) but nothing by the wash hand basin -a simple requirement that has been sadly overlooked for the minimalist effect.

The breakfast room that doubles as the main restaurant in the evenings provided a good variety of choices and it was a refreshing change to have properly cooked scrambled eggs in the kitchen as opposed to the usual hotel powdered offerings at the breakfast buffet. The size of the room, the table settings, cotton table cloths etc... are of a high quality to the degree it felt like sitting at homely table atmosphere as opposed to a hotel dining room.....

Staff were helpful and friendly which was a relief as previous reviewers had complained about the service -clearly management had taken notice and instigated improvements!

Overall would stay again as liked the boutique style this hotel exudes.

Room Tip: Aviod room 410 unless you are a heavy sleeper
