“'A most excellent choice Mr Bond'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

Decided to visit Krakow on route to Milan via Brussels, Cologne and Warsaw, that's the route of the overnight sleeper and selected this hotel at random, and a very excellent choice it was too.

In our case we walked from the station which was very easy once you get your bearings as the hotel is on the edge of the old city next to the Planty (which is a park that surrounds the old city and was the course of the old city wall) I guess this took about 20 minutes, once we knew exactly where we were going we got this down to about 12 minutes.

As I said the hotel is on the edge of the old city a few minutes walk from the city square and given we stayed here during the Euro's group stage when Poland were playing there was no noise which can be an issue with city centre hotels.

The hotel is very well appointed, we had a very nice room which overlooked a small courtyard, shaded by trees, at the time of our visit Krakow was very hot but the room was always very cool. The room did have air conditioning but I don't remember using it.

The bed was comfortable and I slept very well, although effectively the king size bed was two singles in so far as you had two separate quilts.

The hotel is on three floors and there is a lift, breakfast was served in the courtyard conservatory and what a breakfast the best ever, a choice of everything and whilst it was continental you could also order eggs cooked every which way.

The only downside and its only a very minor one is that it was not until we left that we discovered that the hotel had a suna and roof terrace, the staff could have mentioned this when we arrived, we noticed when coming down in the lift with our luggage, normally we used the stairs.

It was easy to reach the sites and whilst we walked everywhere, the trams and buses are numerous, Krakow is a lovely city, the Poles are really friendly, plenty of choice food wise numerous restaurants and bars serving catering for all choices.

The hotel is a perfect place from which to explore Krakow. It is on a quiet street near Planty park, yet very close to old town, market square and access to trams and buses. Our room was a good size with a comfortable bed and other amenities. The hotel staff was very helpful and arranged an airport pickup for us. We used the same driver to take us to Auschwitz the next day. The breakfast was the most sumptuous we had in our five city trip through Germany, Poland and Hungary. Lots of delicious, fresh food and they made omelets if you wanted them. Highly recommend the hotel.

Just returned from Krakow. Fantastic city and people. The Grodek is in a great location for touring, 5 minutes from the centre, but situated in a quiet/sheltered corner. Food in hotel was superb, with the breakfast table catering for all tastes. Staff very attentive and willing to please at every turn. Clearly all at the Grodek are customer focused. We were on the third floor and although there was an air con unit, (didn't bother us) enjoyed having the terrace next door almost as our own private area! Will certainly return to this establishment.

As a tourist attraction Krakow has it all, Good communication from the airport, with taxi and trains easily obtained. A wonderfull city full of diverse history and buildings that take you through the ages. Marvellous parks which abound the city and restuarants that cover every type of cuisine at prices that are incredible value. Trips within the city can be done via tram, horse drawn coach, mini bus or for those who are able, I would recommend "cracow free tours" which have 2 walking tours each day and you pay on the basis of enjoyment. A fantastic way to see the city. One trip that all should see is a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where we see a tragic side of Polish/Jewish history. On a more enlightening note, a visit to the salt mine at Wieliczka is must - simply stunning. Having been to several european cities, this is our favourite and one that is on the "must return list", as is the Grodek.

Nice and well located hotel in the old town of Krakow. Not 5 star, rather 4. Excellent breakfast. Hepful staff. The only twin bedroom is on the third floor and is disturbed by noice from ventilation /aircond (for the whole hotel). Avoid if you are sensitive to noice.

Recently back from a 4-day trip to this wonderful city. This hotel is excellent for a city visit - close to the historic centre yet located in a quiet cul-de-sac, a 5-minute walk away from the noise and bustle. Staff excellent, efficient and unobtrusive. If you want over-attentive gushing waiters etc. then go to the Med or North Africa, not Poland. This is a small hotel, and very luxuriously appointed, and rooms have been recently refurbished. Spotlessly clean. Comfy beds. Good shower, and posh toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers, and all you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Free internet. Small restaurant - we had breakfast there but didn't eat there in the evenings as there was so much choice in the city, and I suspect it would have been very quiet. Breakfasts were very good and attention of the staff, as stated, was perfect. The bar in the basement is really the only other public room in the hotel - cosy. The hotel is across the road from the tram stop, so access to all the city is a breeze. The city itself is a worthwhile trip - beautiful and historic buildings and plenty of greenery for walks around the old centre. The castle is worth a visit. The churches are astonishing if you're into churches. As a Catholic living in a secular country it's an eye-opener to see priests and nuns walking around the streets, and lots of young people attending church. Hundreds of bars and restaurants. The best eatery we found was Aperitif - two minutes from the hotel. The food and drink in Krakow is cheap - 3 courses and a bottle of wine for two persons under £50 in most places. Very acceptable pint of Polish beer is under £2, wine is dearer. Essential trips are to Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Wieliczka salt mine. We pre-booked on the net with escape2poland - they also organised the airport runs - excellent and prompt service in air-conditioned mini-buses. The Auschwitz trip is one of those experiences everyone should have, but you would never want to do it again. Salt mine is terrific and not to be missed. We would visit this city again, and stay at the Grodek, even though it's a bit pricey.

This is a very handsome building in a wonderful location, central yet quiet. The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. The room was smaller than I imagined and I had difficulties connecting to the internet, as the wifi signal was not good enough. Just a few little things that made me feel it wasn't good value for money, or not quite reaching the 4 star level I would expect.

I had a pleasant meal in the restaurant, and found the waiter particularly friendly.

Hotel Grodek is ideally placed inside the Planty (former walls of the city) and an easy 5 minute stroll to the main square. Taxi rank & tram stops are nearby.
Although it is close to the hub of tourist activity, the hotel is located in a cul de sac (no passing traffic) and we always found it to be quiet & peaceful.
We thought this was an excellent hotel, well maintained with fine decor.
The rooms were good sized and very clean.
Mini-bar & tea/coffee making facilities were provided.
Breakfasts were very good. Staff were unobtrusive, but polite, friendly, and efficient.
The hotel also arranged airport transfers via a reliable, smooth, & friendly taxi service.
We enjoyed our stay, it was good value, and we would definitely recommend it to you.
