Owner description: The Galicia Jewish Museum exists to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and to celebrate the Jewish culture of Polish Galicia, presenting Jewish history from a new perspective.

At first sight, this just looks like a collection of beautiful but rather mundane photos, however, it is much much more than that. The photos and the captions below inform the visitor of the many hidden/less well known horrors suffered by the Jewish population of the local region. A visit to this museum is essential to build a complete picture of the Holocaust and its effect on the local Jewish/Polish community.

This is an excellent place to visit and gives you an alternative take on Jewish History in the Galicia region. The museum is more of a galley, the only exhibits being photo graphs with written commentaries. There is also an art exhibition as you walk in, a book store and a cafe.

The museum proper deals with the history of the Jews in Galicia in a refreshing way, you will not see pictures of people but the story is through photographs of the buildings, synagogues and memorials. The story is heart breaking and moved me to tears. Well worth a visit!

This little museum taught us so much, in an unpreachy and memorable way. We were worried that there were not that many visitors when we went, though Krakow itself was very busy. This place really brings home the waste of life through the evil of fascist cruelty - both on an individual and community level. Set in the still melancholy Jewish quarter, the gallery leaves you with images that are both haunting and poignant. Do go if you want to experience the significance of the Holocaust tragedy within recognisable human proportions. The British photographer (Charles Schwartzer) who steered this Galician Jewish Memorial Museum up to his untimely death a few years ago achieved something remarkable through his pure quality of vision and his photographs.

Really interesting small museum devoted to the culture and history of Jewish population of Galicia (former name of this part of Poland and Ukraine ) Good photography exhibition showing the extensive Jewish culture that existed and how it has declined since WW2.
Moving and impressive. Lovely cafe and good bookshop also
