We originally picked this hotel for its location: within about a ten-minute walk from everywhere we wanted to go – the train station, Old Town, the Jewish Quarter, Wawel Castle, etc., etc. But then, so is the massive Holiday Inn just across ulica Wielopole.

But the Wielopole Hotel is everything that the Holiday Inn isn't: small, personal, human.

It's a small hotel, with only about four rooms per floor. The rooms themselves are comfortable, with everything you'd need, including free wifi. They even have windows that actually open.

But for us, the big thing was the cheerful personal service. The sign on their window says that "We all speak English," and they do. And they smile. And when you ask for directions, they not only give them, but start drawing you a map.

And they remember. Every morning after I asked for artificial sweetener for my tea at the breakfast buffet (included in the cost of the room) our first day, I was handed a package of Slodjik (the catchily named Polish artificial sweetener tablets) without having to even open my mouth to try and pronounce it.

When checking out, we mentioned at the front desk the difficulties we'd had trying to figure out the LOT airlines website (even with Google's English translation) for checking in on the first leg of our return flight, they just asked for our confirmation numbers, went on line, checked us in, and printed out our boarding passes.

If you're going to Krakow, you'll be missing out on a lot if you stay anywhere else.

Best location, 5 minutes walk to the center, next to great parks, quiet room, relaxed bed, very clean hotel, great staff, very polite, helpful, great characters, provide gluten free food, there is restaurant for lunch and dinner inside the hotel ( cold nights no need to go out for food) What else do we need? I will go back again. This is for sure.

Room tip: All the rooms are so quiet. I stayed at 2 different rooms.

From our initial booking to check out the staff at this hotel could not do enough for us and everything done with a genuine smile. On request by email they arranged our taxi to pick us up from the airport and organised our trips to Auschwitz and the Salt Mines which took all the hassle out of our trip. Our welcome at reception was excellent even if it was at 10pm, the hotel was spotless clean and welcoming and the room was more than adequate. The kettle in the room with teabags and milk was a lovely surprise as in my travel experience this is seriously uncommon on the continent. The bathroom was large, clean and completely spotless. We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Krakow due to its staff and proximity to everything which is no more than a 10 minute walk away. We will be back

Stayed for a short leisure break at end of october. Central location close to Market Square. Clean and comfortable rooms, good variety at breakfast in sweet little restaurant. Service at reception was first class, really appreciate their helpfulness, friendliness and professionalism, particularly this morning when our flight was cancelled and the night receptionist was so helpful. Highly recommend this hotel, amazing value, will return to Krakow as 2 nights not enough for this spectacular city and will retun to this hotel.

Very helpful staff and OK breakfast. Very well located just 5 minute walk from the market square. The room was clean and comfortable although only one or two english speaking channels (news channels) but not important. I would book here again if i visit Krakow again.
