“Excellent value for money near city centre”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

We spent four nights at this hotel from 14 -18 December 2011. The room although not overly large was clean and warm. The breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with a vast choice of foods, one of the best breakfasts I have found in any hotel. There were some renovations/decorating going on at the time of our visit but did not cause us any inconvenience.
The hotel is within a few minutes walk of the city centre and main square.

I stayed at the Alexander 05/03/2012 - 07/03/2012 and was totally disappointed with my stay.

When I checked in, the receptionist treated me more as an annoyance, handed me a brochure and pointed in the direction of where my room was. When I entered my room, it stank of stale cigarette smoke. The room was basic, which is what I expected but the carpet was dirty and obviously hadnt been hoovered recently.

A major issue with the room (rm 115) was that it was FREEZING! I had to open the door to the hallway in the hope some of the heat would get in. I had a twin for sole use and had to use the cover from the other bed, which would not be feesible of there were two people using the room. The blankets also smelt so bad, I could not cover myself fully as the smell made me gag.

Breakfast was ok. Typical choice of meats/bread etc although things ran out quickly, even though it started at 7 and I turned up at 8 and there were not many people eating. I saw a waitress once while she replenished the ham and that was that.

Upon checking out, I had to wait for the receptionist to finish her private call (obviously unaware I had a flight to catch) and a good seven minutes later I gave her my key and asked for directions to the train station. She pointed to the left and said 'that way'.....HELPFUL!

I will not be staying there again and am very disappointed with the lackluster customer service I received and the fact my room was so cold.

Room Tip: do not stay in room 115

We have just returned from a two night stay in Alexander Hotel and were very pleased. The Hotel is in a fantastic location. It is a 5 minute walk to the Old Town Square. There is also a 24 hour supermarket about two minutes away. The Hotel is extremely clean and the room was fairly spacious and also very clean. We arrived at 12.30 and our room was already ready despite check in being 2 pm. We had a tea/coffee maker and the bed was comfortable. One thing i would say is the duvet was a little on the small side and we are not big people! Reception were very helpful, offering to book tours and taxi and providing us with a map. Breakfast was good - scrambled egg, sausage, toast, ham, cheese, pastries, fruit, cereal, juices and tea/coffee. Overall a very good hotel for the price and would recommend for a city break.

Location just opposite the Old Town and good price are the advanteges of this hotel. This time I stayed in room No. 009 on the first floor. The room has no view as the windows are painted white (see pictures). Room 009 is a large room for three with coffee/tea facilities, two separate beds and a flat screen tv. The down sides of this room are: lack of heating in the bathroom (I had to use a hair dryer to heat it before taking a shower) and poor air conditionning (no matter how you set up the controls it is quite cold inside, and it's noisy too).
Breakfast is basic but it will make a good start for the day.
All in all, a decent hotel for a short business stay or a weekend trip to Kraków.

Room Tip: Rooms No. 5xx are not on the top floor but on the first floor just round the corner from the recepti...

Have just returned from a 4day break 16 of us to the alexander , this hotel is a joke , i have never been to a hotel were if you use towels and get stains on them that they then charge you for washing them i had to pay 100 zolity ( £21.50 )for a small white hand towel which my daughter got make up on then they had a cheek to try and charge me 1000 zoility £200) for a throw which was over the bed because we had got a few stains while eating a burger i managed to remove the stains with wipes but they still said it had to go to laundry an they were still looking 300 zloity which i refused to pay i really wanted them to get the police because they are trying to rip their customers off we spoke to at least 4 people that were charged for anything ranging from hair dye on pillow cases to chipped cups i asked to speake to the manager and at no time did i see him also the breakfast was a disgrace freezing tea and coffee and not a pleasant smile from their staff would never go back , so just be careful if your travelling with children or teenagers .

Overall hotel wasn't bad and in a good location about 15min walk from main train/bus station and 5 min from old town and main square. Breakfast which was included not that good. Same food everyday which can be a bit boring and when you get down for breakfast at 9:45 expect your coffee being cold. Guy from reception is a chancer and trying to 'chance his arm' with foreign nationality tourists. My friend stained her pillow case with hairdye a bit and he charged us 40polish zloty (£8) then one of other friends had little accident with kebab sauce on her bed sheets first guy came out with a 1000polish zloty charge then after a bit of arguing he came out with the story of 300polish zloty and still was expecting them to pay it!!! Joke! i think his boss doesn't know what he is doing behind his back?! Sure they have laundry in the hotel and accidents sometime happen so an excuse that this needs to go to laundry to get especially cleaned doesn't rectify this at all, even when my friends washed the stain. They have tried to charge others for stained with make up towels etc.
Also customer service level was ZERO staff always looking grumpy. The same guy was only nice and smiled for a minute when we booked trip to Auschwitz trough the hotel (most likely because he got a bit of commission from it!!)

Have just spent 4days at this hotel and it was perfect. The hotel is warm and clean, the double room at the front was well equipped, sat Tv coffee making facilities and good en-suite. It was a short walk to the Old Town, and as it was a nice day when we arrived we walked it from the railway station took about 15 mins. The breakfasts were ok, did not eat there at night as there is a large selection of restaurants in Krakow and they are not expensive, and neither is the vodka.
