“Great little hotel”
Reviewed July 18, 2011

Excellent boutique hotel, very centrally located along the way leading from the Main Market Square (Rynek Glowny) to Wawel Castle. % minutes on foot to both places. Prices are very reasonable for this location, but then Poland is still inexpensive.

Don't bother boking tours from the various agencies and touts - the hotel will book for you, paying at reception. Auschwitz Concentration Camp and Wieliczka Salt Mine should not be missed.

Rooms large, with, in our case, a bathroom at least half as large as the bedroom itself. Good breakfast in the very old cellar!

We loved this hotel. Five minutes from Market Square, five minutes from Wawel Hill, and a lovely clean hotel. I would also recommend it for the breakfast in the cellar, the value for money, and the friendly service.

The Senacki is well located on a street connecting the main square and the royal palace. All the sights are within walking distance the furthest being Schindlers Museum but even this is only a one hour stroll along the beautiful riverside. The street is a little busy during the day with pedestrians but there is not much traffic. The hotel also has very effective double glazing. The hotel itself is fairly small but has two restaurants, one in the basement (lift available) which is also used for breakfast and one near the entrance. There is no bar in the hotel but there are numerous bars nearby.
We were upgraded to a suite which was excellent. The rooms were spacious, very clean and equipped with toiletries etc and the mini bar was surprisingly reasonably priced, midway between bar and supermarket prices. The furnishings were traditional in dark wood but fitted the ambience very well. The hotel staff were really helpful and curteous.

Breakfast was excellent with a cold buffet offering cereals. fruit juices, cheese ,meats etc and there was also a hot breakfast available i.e. eggs, bacon, sausages pancakes etc. Beware that you have to ask for the hot breakfast if you want it, they do not ask you!!

There are plenty of really good, reasonably priced ,restaurants nearby but the main square is very expensive and from our experience the food and service is poor. Try a Mexican for a cheap meal and cheap wine. Generally service everywhere is very slow but this appears to be the Polish way so just relax as the food is good. Wine is very expensive but lager cheaper than at home. There is a little supermarket near the hotel and drinks from here were very cheap- so stock your mini bar with your nightcaps!!

The Polish dumplings and pancakes are great if you have a sweet tooth!!

Room Tip: Room at the back away from the street

Every time we left the hotel to see or do something new in this lovely city, we discovered that our hotel was only minutes from the site or square! The breakfast here was excellent (free- flowing expresso bar!) and included in the cost of our room. We booked from Expedia and got a great rate, just over $100. Although we were in the middle of everything, in fact overlooking a the square where the 4 small churches are near the university, our room was well-soundproofed. There were little balconies on each floor and a small sitting area. We even walked from the train station to the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the church.

Excellent location on Royal Route between Wawel castle and the main square. Friendly and knowledgeable front desk. Rooms more than adequate and breakfast as much and varied as you might like. You can't go wrong!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the church of st. petr.

My husband and I visited Krakow on a short break. The hotel is situated in the old town a stones throw from everything. The castle is five minutes in one direction, market square five minutes in the other direction, a fantastic church, St Paul and St Peters opposite where classical concerts are held most nights and lovely restaurants all around. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, their english was faultless and they all had a good knowledge of what was on and worth seeing. Most of our tours we arranged through them, not only was it easier but cheaper. The rooms were spotlessly clean, breakfast had everything you could possibly imagine catered for and fresh every morning - no plastic eggs or yesterdays leftovers! They even provided me with a travel plug for the duration as mine didn't fit. There are only 16 rooms which makes this a lovely cosy place with an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. Despite there being plenty of things all around it was very peaceful. Krakow is a hidden gem, we don't normally do repeat holidays but enjoyed ourselves so much that we are planning to return to this hotel next May.

The castle is worth a trip, it contains several exhibits and areas which are ticketed seperately, you are alotted a time as visitor numbers are limited so no jostling crowds to contend with, the english tour is worth paying for. Mikes bike tour booked through "Freebookers" was brilliant, nothing too strenuous and Mike was full of knowledge and stories, made it a thoroughly entertaining afternoon. Hop on a tram and visit Schindlers museum, there is so much here you won't take it all in on a single visit. The jewish quarter is a nice walk, the galiciar museum is also worth a visit. Salt mines shouldn't be missed and Auschwitz was worth seeing - as my husband put it, "Life isn't all fluffy bunnies" and it is part of history. If you like classical music book tickets to see the Krakow Philamonic Orchestra in the Philamonic Hall, it cost us an unbelievable £7 per ticket, you can't get into the cinema for that here. There is so much more to see but this should get you started and don't forget your Amber girls.
