“Good Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

We stayed in this hotel over the New Year. My husband and I and our two adult daughters arrived on New Years Eve for 4 nights. I had booked a double and a twin room through Travel Republic. I emailed the hotel the week before we arrived to make sure we were allocated the twin room, as this has been problematic for us in the past in other hotels. I received a prompt friendly reply confirming they would meet our request. I also booked a table in the Someplace Else restaurant for New Years Eve, by email with no problem.

We had pre-booked our airport transfer with Krakow-airport-express. This was an excellent service, the transfer to the hotel cost €19 and took about 25mins. We arrived at the hotel at about 4.30pm, tired and anxious to rest before dinner. The receptionist was a little standoffish, bordering on unfriendly. It took her ages to check us in. While we were waiting, two other people arrived and were checked in very speedily. I asked the receptionist if she was trying to accommodate us on the same floor and I said if that was proving a problem for her, then not to worry as it wasn't an issue for us. She didn't answer me. She eventually produced the room keys after 20mins. She then asked us if we needed help with our luggage and we said no thank you, we'l manage no problem. She kinda smirked, pointed at the luggage and said 'all of that'? We had one piece of hand luggage each and two suitcases between us, perfectly manageable.
We were allocated rooms on the second floor. The double room was fine, nothing special, really nothing 5 star about it, just your average hotel room. The safe didn't work and we rang down to reception to let them know. She proceeded to give my husband instructions on how to use it. He told her he knew how to use it, but it just wasn't working. She said she would send someone up. She sent the porter up to show us how to use it. The porter took one look and said oh this isn't working, I will have to get maintenance. The maintenance guy arrived with new batteries and the problem was sorted, though it did stop working the day after and he had to sort it again.

The double room overlooked the car park, which wasn't a problem for us and it was nice and quiet. The twin room was only ok. It had no natural light as the window looked onto the large inside lobby, which housed the Olive Restaurant and the Cube Bar. We found this a very strange set up for a 5 star hotel. It was like being in an inside cabin of a cruise ship. On the plus side the beds and pillows were very comfortable, trademark Sheraton. My husband used the swimming pool, which is quiet small, but he found the sauna great.

We had dinner in the Someplace Else restaurant bar, it was really only ok. The place was practically empty, which was surprising given it was New Years Eve. Again staff a bit brisk and standoffish, maybe it's just the Polish way. We had a few cocktails after dinner and then headed for the Square, which was amazing. The atmosphere was electric, with a live band and a massive crowd. We stayed outside the Vis a Vis bar and had great craic with a Polish couple we met there. It was a very memorable night.
On our second day we were notified by the hotel that they were undertaking remedial work on the lobby floor, which meant that the Olive Restaurant and Cube Bar were closed for the rest of our stay. They sanded and varnished the floor over 4 days, the smell of varnish overpowering. Again we felt this really fell short of 5 star hotel standard, closing the majority of its facilities to hotel guests for an extended period is not good enough. FYI, there is an ATM round the back of reception, we didn't know it was there until we were leaving and saw the sign way over in the corner. Also we got a great exchange rate for our euro up in the Square. It is the bureau along the same side as the 24hr supermarket, thanks to the tip on TA forum.
We absolutely loved Krakow. It is a beautiful city with plenty to do and see, even though this was a second visit for myself and my husband, we loved it more second time round. We used the Krakow airport express company again for the Auschwitz/Birkenau tour and the tour of the Saltmines. Again they were efficient and friendly. We changed our pre-booked times with them at short notice and it was no problem.
Overall we had a great visit to Krakow. Food and drink very reasonable. We would highly recommend the Argentine Grill Piemento, up near the Mbassy Irish Bar. It was first class. Our hotel stay was ok, but for us it fell short of 5 star. No atmosphere at all in the place. The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's ten minutes walk to the Square and right across the road from the river. We stepped outside on NY's day, to glorious sunshine, very unusual and unseasonal for the time of year. We crossed over to the beautiful riverside walk, strolled up by the castle and sat and watched all the hotair balloons rise into the blue sky, Stunning! That picture will stay in my mind for a long time.
I would say, stay in the Sheraton Krakow, but only if you get a good price. In our estimation it really is only 4 star, so if you go with that expectation then you'l be fine.

Room Tip: We were in room 240, its an average room, but was quiet.

This hotel matches with the expectations linked to his name.
The service is excellent.
The bedroom, although with some old stile furniture, is nice and comfortable with a big bed!
The location is a little far from the main square. It is about 15-20 min walk from the main train station. It is close to the river and the castle, so the view is nice.

We had the Starwood card so we had internet wifii and breakfast included. if not the internet is not included.

We stayed at the Sheraton for 3 nights over new year and had a really comfortable, pleasant stay. The king size beds were great and very comfortable and we had a peaceful sleep each night. The breakfast is considerably overpriced at approximately £18, despite the considerable selection. However, with a 24 hour supermarket just across the road, you can pick up some really cheap supplies from here and can avoid the hotel's expensive breakfast entirely.
The hotel's bar/restaurant ("Someplace Else") is also really nice and has plenty of sport on the many TVs if you're that way inclined. The food and drink is, naturally, more expensive than what you'd find in regular pubs and eateries on the street, but at £3 a pint and £10 for a main meal (which are decent in size and quality), it's not above and beyond what Brits would expect to pay at home.
The staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful. The location is great and it's only a 15 minute walk into the central square, whilst also overlooking the impressive castle and river.
All-in-all, I can't fault it and would definitely recommend it as a place to stop if you're in Krakow.

Room Tip: Hard to say; we were on the 5th floor and found it to be nice and quiet.

Dear Guest,

We truly appreciate your valuable feedback.

I am delighted that you had such a great nights sleep on our Sweet Sleeper Bed®, I believe it is very important part of the stay at your home away from home.

Thank you for mentioning the SomePlace Else Bar with delicious Tex-Mex cuisine and amazing sports atmosphere – watching the game on one of our 9 new TV screens in HD quality can be really a wonderful experience.

I truly hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back at Sheraton Krakow Hotel and highly recommend staying in one of our Club rooms. It will allow you to enjoy not only the space, comfort and river /castle view but exclusive access to the Club Lounge as well, where breakfast and afternoon snacks & drinks are included.

Very nice clean comfortable hotel that truly deserves its 5 star status, the room had the biggest most comfortable bed and the bathroom was spotless with great lighting and great shower.
Masses of storage space, top quality hd tv and fantastic room service. Ax always the mini bar was overpriced but not ridiculous like in the uk. You can actually use it then restock yourself next day from supermarket over the road.
Hotel in great location right on river and next to castle. They have a really good sports var attached if you don't want to miss your game. They show all sports channels at the same time..!!
We stayed for 7 nights over new year and were very impressed by this hotel and all its staff, would definitely go back and would highly recommend

It is a wonderful 5* feedback for our 5* property – thank you very much.

Our comfortable Sweet Sleeper Beds® & hotel location next to the Wisla river and the Wawel Castle are definitely one of our greatest assets.

The SomePlace Else sports bar with its amazing atmosphere and 9 HD quality screens are indeed welcoming all fans of various sports disciplines.
The experience can be emphasized by delicious Tex-Mex food served there – we hope you will enjoy it when your travel brings you back to Krakow soon!

Kind regards & best wishes for 2013!

We visited Krakow in April 2011. The Sheraton Krakow Hotel is centrally located on the bank of the Vistula near Wawel Castle. Grodska Street, the thoroughfare to the Main Market Square, is just around the corner. The Church of Sts Peter and Paul (No. 54) hosts evening concerts. The Miod Malina Restaurant (No. 40) was recommended. The food was of high quality and is worth a visit. The Market Square itself is quite attractive and the atmosphere is very lively. It is arguably one of the finest Squares in Europe.
The hotel itself was extremely comfortable and was well worth the cost, which was not too extravagant. The architectural design of the interior provides a sense of space. The buffet breakfast was simply perfect and all members of staff were quite helpful. Significantly, this hotel was chosen to host the draw for the European Championships 2012 in October 2011.
The Kazimierz District, the birthplace of Helena Rubenstein and Schindler’s factory, is also worth a visit in this most beautiful city.
Should we return, and hopefully we will, The Sheraton will be the hotel of choice.

Room was large and well presented. Bed so comfy. Good to have tea and coffee making facilities. Hotel well located, very close to castle and easy walking distance to the rest of the sights.
The only thing that could be improved on is having free internet in all the rooms, it's only currently available in public areas

My husband and I stayed here end of Dec 2012. Nice rooms, good breakfast, and quiet but central location. For a 5 star hotel I would have liked extra milk in my room and a early morning wake up call when requested but this did not happen. We would stay again .

Room Tip: higher rooms quieter
