“Excellent Service for a Communist themed Restaurant. The food was also nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

We visited this restaurant last week with a group of more 16 people. They were able to accommodate the large number even though we'd only made a reservation for 12 people. The atmosphere is suppose to be one from the communist era. I was amused with the menu and it soon became a talking point within the group. You definitely need a translation from your waiter if you want to order the right thing for yourself!
When the food came it was good. I had the "song of Leningrad" followed by the "commissar". Both dishes were good...and the wine was redder than. The communist flag...infancy I also think it tasted better!
A must visit when your in krakow.

“KogelMogel great place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

I visited krakow mid September 2012 and we had lunch at KogelMogel. The menu provides sufficient choice with humorous reference to the Communist past, like the beet soup that was chosen often by hig officials in the Polit buro.
I really liked the beetsup btw and also the beers were great.

Great staff as well so a good place to go when you are in Krakow!

“nice place in Krakow - good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Duck was very good if the skin was more crispy would be excellent; Saxon pork chop was excellent; waiter was helpful and polite; good bread and good soup too; they had live music the night we visited with a good singer - if you like the music buy an after dinner drink for 10 zloty - comfortable cozy dining room too

“Restaurant recommended by locals.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012 via mobile

Interesting place with local polish cuisine. Loved their fried goat cheese with cranberry sauce. But their famous duck (as they says they are famous for) is just good. Very simple and homemade. Which is great but not mind blowing. Located right off the main square.

“It's Definitely Communist Era Food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

This restaurant was delightful in it's atmosphere & theme. We went there for lunch in July & sat in the outdoor courtyard. The theme is cold war era - the menu was entertaining containing stories & photos of the day to day behind the Iron Curtain. We were served "słoninka" & brown bread as an starter snack which I thoroughly enjoyed having grown up on this kind of food. The waitress was sweet, charming, & capable. We ordered: a smoked salmon salad & a schnitzel. We waited - I'm not kidding - 45 minutes for our food yet there were only two other tables filled with customers (it was about 2 in the afternoon). To the waitress' credit, after about 15 minutes she came to apologize and returned several times later to apologize again & offer a free dessert for our trouble. We did not want dessert just our lunch. The worst is that when lunch finally arrived, it was awful. I got iceberg lettuce piled high on the plate with 3 narrow strips of smoked salmon, three sectons of hard boiled egg and some red pepper strips - that's it! This was July - the height of the produce season! My husband's schnitzel was dry & overdone. The edges were so overcooked, they curled up and were inedible. The juices had been completely cooked out - it was cardboard. Even though this was a 'cold war themed' restaurant, I did not expect the food to be of that era's horrendous quality. I wish we had been told what the reason for the delay was - we could have ordered something else. This restaurant is owned by the same group who owns Miod Malinowy & Wesele, two of our favorite restaurants in Krakow. I think Kogel Mogel needs some attention, folks.
