I stayed in the Novotel with my wife and 5 year old daughter over the Easter weekend in March 2013.
The hotel is very well located right next to a very convenient tram stop which links the station (a good way to arrive from the airport) and most central areas as well. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the main central square which has an abundance of bars and restaurants.
Our room was warm, clean and spacious and had a nice view of the castle. A sofa bed was converted by the maid to a bed which my daughter used. Those sensitive to noise would have noticed some traffic noise at night because it is right next to a main road but we didn't find it too troublesome.
The hotel is decorated in a clean, contemporary style as might be expected in a chain hotel such as this.
Breakfast was taken in a large but pleasant dining area with huge windows looking out to a side street. The breakfast options were particularly extensive and it would be difficult to raise a complaint about it. The hotel deserves special credit for it.
There's free wifi in the rooms and that worked well although you do need to get a username and password from reception each day to use it.
There is a small children's play area off of reception with English books, soft toys, building blocks etc. (even an XBox) which my daughter really liked using.
The Spa area includes free towels and has a decent sized (indoor heated) swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna along with changing areas and showers.
There is a decent bar with a range of drinks and cocktails on offer but it was functional at best. I didn't find it cosy or intimate and there will be much better options in town.
The maid service was very good and the hotel looked after our suitcases upon check out so that we could do some sightseeing before the flight home.
All in all, I cannot really fault this hotel. At £60 odd a night for effectively a family room it represented exceptional value. It was a dreadfully cold and snowy weekend when we visited and this hotel made a big difference to our enjoyment of the trip. I thoroughly recommend it.
