Novotel Krakow Centre could have been, in my opinion, an excellent hotel, but there are some details that can disappoint every guest.
Let's start with the pros. Our check-in was smooth, the receptionists were friendly, eager to help. Prior to our arrival we had asked for rooms with the river view and we got such.
Novotel's rooms are more or less the same in every country. Ours were VERY CLEAN, spacy, with coffee/tee facilities. The quality of sleep is very good. We didn't have any complaints about noise coming from the street in front of the hotel.
Breakfast. We took it only once (the reason why, shall you find below among the cons). It's a buffet, with variety of products. The staff was very efficient, the food was always there, tasty.
Bar. Once again, very friendly staff, who didn't make fuss about one special wish we had :)
The hotel is well situated, in a walking distance from the Wawel Castle. There are some shops in the closest neighbourhood.
The same bar lacks of any atmosphere. It's a 4 star so one could expect a nice design. It's not there. We spent there 3 evenings, but it's not a place we would recommend to go and have a drink.
As I had said before, breakfast in this Novotel had a big disadventage and that was the price.
15 EUR is way too much. You pay almost the same in other Novotels situated in old Europe. And what about the EUR/PLN relation? Anyway, if you don't like to pay through the nose, go to the old town. We discovered there some restaurants that serve breakfasts too. Price? More or less 50% cheaper.
Although I praised the work of reception a few lines ago, I have to mention that it's not always a bed of roses. We had to wait almost 48h to get bathrobes...Three visits at the reception desk, two phone calls...Hmmmm :(
The swimming pool. We spent there exactly 10 min. We couldn't stay longer as the temperature inside was much below 18 Celsius. We checked all vents and we could easily feel strong wave of very cold air coming inside.
Moreover, to get a bath towel I had to look for a member of the staff because we couldn't find any lying in the changing room. The life-guard was really "special". He said no single word to any of us. He gave us the bathtowels and close himself in his cosy and warm little office :) BIG MINUS.
And the check-out. Well, my feeling are really torn. Part of the reception was really polite, friendly and smiling (a guy), and part was unfriendly, stiff, too formal and not smiling (a woman). We had the impression that it was our fault that the bill was not correct because they had charged us for one breakfast instead of 3...But I did my best and I asked her to add two more meals to our bill :)
To sum up. The hotel may have 4 stars but sometimes it feels more like staying in 3+.
Neverthless, if you come to Krakow, it's one of the most decent places to stay. Probably we will come back.
