Certificate of Excellence

Novotel Krakow Centre could have been, in my opinion, an excellent hotel, but there are some details that can disappoint every guest.
Let's start with the pros. Our check-in was smooth, the receptionists were friendly, eager to help. Prior to our arrival we had asked for rooms with the river view and we got such.
Novotel's rooms are more or less the same in every country. Ours were VERY CLEAN, spacy, with coffee/tee facilities. The quality of sleep is very good. We didn't have any complaints about noise coming from the street in front of the hotel.
Breakfast. We took it only once (the reason why, shall you find below among the cons). It's a buffet, with variety of products. The staff was very efficient, the food was always there, tasty.
Bar. Once again, very friendly staff, who didn't make fuss about one special wish we had :)
The hotel is well situated, in a walking distance from the Wawel Castle. There are some shops in the closest neighbourhood.

But.
The same bar lacks of any atmosphere. It's a 4 star so one could expect a nice design. It's not there. We spent there 3 evenings, but it's not a place we would recommend to go and have a drink.
As I had said before, breakfast in this Novotel had a big disadventage and that was the price.
15 EUR is way too much. You pay almost the same in other Novotels situated in old Europe. And what about the EUR/PLN relation? Anyway, if you don't like to pay through the nose, go to the old town. We discovered there some restaurants that serve breakfasts too. Price? More or less 50% cheaper.
Although I praised the work of reception a few lines ago, I have to mention that it's not always a bed of roses. We had to wait almost 48h to get bathrobes...Three visits at the reception desk, two phone calls...Hmmmm :(
The swimming pool. We spent there exactly 10 min. We couldn't stay longer as the temperature inside was much below 18 Celsius. We checked all vents and we could easily feel strong wave of very cold air coming inside.
Moreover, to get a bath towel I had to look for a member of the staff because we couldn't find any lying in the changing room. The life-guard was really "special". He said no single word to any of us. He gave us the bathtowels and close himself in his cosy and warm little office :) BIG MINUS.
And the check-out. Well, my feeling are really torn. Part of the reception was really polite, friendly and smiling (a guy), and part was unfriendly, stiff, too formal and not smiling (a woman). We had the impression that it was our fault that the bill was not correct because they had charged us for one breakfast instead of 3...But I did my best and I asked her to add two more meals to our bill :)
To sum up. The hotel may have 4 stars but sometimes it feels more like staying in 3+.
Neverthless, if you come to Krakow, it's one of the most decent places to stay. Probably we will come back.

Room Tip: don't hesitate to take a room with the river view or on the right wing (if you stay face to the...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for the comments about your stay at Novotel Kraków Centrum.

As we strive to provide the best service at our hotel, it is also a great value to receive detailed information about the areas which we can still improve. Please rest assured I have investigated carefully the problems you have mentioned and we have already taken the steps to improve the future occurrence.
Our technical department already checked the ventilation system in our swimming pools area in order to improve the wellbeing of our guests. I have also checked deeply the procedures of towels stocking at the fitness area and made arrangements to improve the performance.
I am also sure that the behavior of our staff was not the standard routine and I want to express my apologies that you have the impression of not being well taken care of.

Again I wish to thank for your detailed comments and I hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you in the future.
Regards,

during Easter 2012 we stayed in Krakow. with early reservation we paid about 120Euro per room including breakfast.
After eating open buffet breakfast, we did not even require to eat anything till afternoon.
The hotel was only 2-3 minutes to Wawel and 10 minutes to old city, by foot.
Our room had a view of Wawel, with no extra cost.
In the evening the swimming pool and jakuzi was good. Sauna is very small, you should not expect much. Anyway, we were not expecting a spa hotel, so including the fitness center it is good.
Before we arrived we received many e-mails on what we can do in the city, the tours. So that helped us to save much time also.
The tours depart from hotel, so that is extra convenient.
We rented a car, and used hotel's parking. 45PLZ for one night is affordable and in a country like Poland, it was so secure to park. The price is good.
The personnel is as well, very kind and helpful on any matter.
The rooms having tea/coffee facility free of charge, finding a small bottle of water each day free of charge were other plus.

The hotel was very well situated overlooking the river and the castle and was about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the town square. We were in a standard room on the 5th floor (6th floor is executive suites) overlooking the river and castle. When the window was open there was a lot of noise from the road outside, especially the trams but when the window was closed very little noise and the rooms are air conditioned. The room was modern, very clean and spacious. Double bed, sofa, two dining type chairs, dressing/writing table with telephone, TV with English speaking news channels and Eurosport, mini bar, open wardrobe and free safe. The bathroom was well lit with shower over bath, hair-dryer and shaving point. Always plenty of hot water. The hotel has a Sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi and small gym. We used the swimming pool and jacuzzi and they were immaculate. Towels are supplied in the changing rooms and there is no charge for the lockers. There is also a massage shower (not sure of the proper name for this) which was great. The restaurant and bar area was comfortable and there was also a small areafor children with books, bean bags and computer games (not sure if these had to be paid for) other small toys. There is also a computer area, two computers with access to the internet free of charge - 20 minute session. We had one evening meal in the restaurant which was very good although as you would expect pricer than eating outside as were the drinks. The breakfast was very good, excellent cold buffet and the usual hot food. Fried eggs and omelettes could be ordered fresh. The reception staff were all very helpful marking out routes on maps on how to get to different places. A complimentary pocket guide book was also left in the room. All the staff were friendly and we would certainly stay at this hotel again should we return to Krakow. The hotel will arrange for a taxi to be waiting at the airport if you e-mail them with flight details. This worked well for us.
The only negative would be that there could have been a small table in the room for cards etc.

If you don't want to eat in the hotel try the Restauracja MIESZCZANSKA, about 5 mins walk from hotel. Turn left out of hotel, left at the corner, under subway restaurant is downstairs in the building straight ahead (ING Bank is in the same building). Main meal with side dishes and drinks for 4 cost us 122 PLN. If you want an Italian close by then head for the restaurant above, turn right, cross the road and you'll see it (sorry don't know name) just up the street, again 2 pizzas and 2 pasta dishes + 1 dessert and drinks approx 120 PLN. Drinks in these restaurants half hotel prices.

Room Tip: E-mail in advance asking for a room with a view over the river and castle.

The service at this hotel was absolutely exceptional!!!!! I travel quite a lot for my work and this is the first time I felt the need to come here and write something about a hotel so this says a lot! Massive big rooms (with a view of the castle some of them at least), amazing breakfast. Swimming pool too so take a swimming costume! But what made the difference was the amazing stuff!!!!!!

stayed here 2 years ago, and we got a special deal of 3 nights b&b for 2 people at £120, which was fantastic value as the breakfast was buffet style with a massive choice of foods and drinks to suit everyone. all the food was really fresh and they were constantly adding more. could not move after breakfast as we over indulged every morning as it was so good.
rooms were lovely and clean with fresh towels everyday.
10 min walk to the square.
would definatley stay here again if we returned, although i doubt we would get such a good price.
