The Pollera Hotel is in Old Town Krakow-- THE place you want to be if you are on a trip to see Krakow. Having left Berlin on the bus to Krakow, we did not know where to stay. Luckily the bus has wifi and we booked our hotel room 3 hours before arrival on a smart phone (the last room available for 2 people). If you arrive at the bus or train station, the hotel is within easy walking distance with your wheeled luggage. We arrived late at night and so took a taxi but if we had checked maps ahead of time, we could have saved 10 Euros. The hotel is an architectural delight with its Art Nouveau staircase and stained glass windows. Our room looked out onto the street and the large casement windows opened up to a view of the Slowacki Theater- which is featured on travel books for Krakow because of its magnificent architecture. The room was clean-- having 4 single beds (for the 2 of us). There was a table for writing with 4 chairs, each chair meticulously set on an angle by our invisible maid each day. The Milkbar Restaurant is 1.5 blocks away, and the Main Square of Krakow is only 3 blocks away. You can't beat the Pollera for location-- except there are also some bars close by with vocal drunks that can be heard at night but the double windows help to soundproof the room. Breakfast was continental with a choice of many vegetables, meats, cheeses, yogurts, granola, cereals, breads, etc. The other thing you can't beat about the Pollera is the cost. Our five night stay at the Pollera was half the cost of other European hotels. We would definitely return to the Pollera for another 5 night stay.

The hotel is some 150 years old. It is very well maintained and has tons of character. Only two rooms are air conditioned, I was told. This may be an issue on hot days. Our room had a huge bathroom with a tub and hand-held shower. Our friends' - a shower stall, no bath tub and a very large room with 3 windows. The beds were fine, the comforters a little too heavy for a hot day. Breakfast was excellent, the bread fresh and there was a variety of pretty much everything. Eggs and local hot dogs cooked on demand only. The rooms in the back of the building are quieter but the street is not heavily travelled. The municipal parking is across the street and costs about $10 for 24 hrs; the meter accepts 5 zloty coins only. You need 7 coins for the day. it is free from 8PM to 10AM. There is no safe in the rooms.

Room Tip: I suggest a higher floor room, in the back if street noise is a concern.

The same day I booked the room on the hotel website I was contacted by email by Ursala, who helped me arrange taxi transportation and our Auschwitz tour. I felt like I had my very own travel agent! The rooms were clean but did not have a hair dryer. They have these at the front desk but only had one available for one our of our three days. The bed was a queen size with two futon mattresses. We had a large bathroom with a tub / shower nozzle - but there were stand up showers available in the hallway.
Out of all the places we stayed in Europe, I like this hotel breakfast the best. It was well stocked and very good with lots of choices.

Room Tip: There is a bar/club next door and the street noise was loud on Saturday night. While the view is nic...

First impressions of the hotel from the outside are pretty much confirmed upon entering. Don't mean that in a negative way as the building is a nice one, located on a primary street in the Old Town. The location is superb, close to both the bus and train stations and a short stroll from the beautiful main square. I arrived early and though I wasn't able to access my room, I was able to leave my bags and enjoy the delights of Krakow until it was ready (14.00). Staff were efficient, let's just leave it at that. The room was large and comfortable, with a separate sitting area, the en-suite clean, with the only issue being a slightly springy bed. The breakfast was good, Wifi was free and I didn't have any problems with it. In a city where it appears things are getting scrubbed up and tidied up, the Hotel Pollera retains a certain authentic charm and character, and overall, my experience was a positive one. Would recommend.

The Hotel Pollera has been in the same ownership since the late 19 century with 40 plus years of state ownership in between . It shows a bit ! However it has a lot going for it especially its location : handy for the old town centre and the train station . It is clean and acceptable if a little faded . The bathrooms may be small but (most) of the bedrooms are spacious . The staff are friendly and the prices are not high . Who wants luxury when you can have character !

Everything was fine about this hotel until it came to checkout. We were sadly left with a bad taste in our mouths when we were told that due to a fault with the card machine we'd have to pay cash. The staff kept giggling at first leaving us unsure as to whether they were joking or not. Since we were leaving Poland that day why would we still have £360 of local currency on us? They demanded that we go to the ATM to withdraw money. We offered instead to pay via bank transfer but were refused. We declined to go to the cash machine - why should we be penalised with the extra fees because their system had failed and they didn't have an alternative in place? We eventually reached a compromise of leaving the card details to be processed once the system was back online - but this came about the hard way as the hotel staff approached it with the totally wrong attitude. What a shame, the attitude of the staff spoiled it for us, I won't be returning.
