“Beautiful”

We arrived on Easter Sunday and were able to see many of the attractions free. They also had many that were open to the public that were normally closed.

“Superb artwork”

As expected of a cathedral, the interior is quite ornate! It is free to wonder inside although it was immensely crowded with large groups getting guided tours.

“Great piece of Polish history - terribly managed”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Definitely go for an online ticket reservation - otherwise:
1. There are 4 tickets desks - 1 on your way up from Podzamcze, 3 additional in tourist center (pass the Cathedral, go right).
2. You will wait for your chance for tickets for 1 hour minimum, not sure if there any tickets left - near the cashiers there are displays "we have ... tickets left for this attraction today" - but there is no information at the end of the queue (usually outside of the Tourist Center building).
3. If you say "4 tickets please" the staff will assume that you are all going together (which was not true for us) - asking for separate tickets was a complete surprise for them (and caused impolite reaction).

There are not enough restrooms (waiting time - ca. 15 minutes).

Do not go for a coffee at Wawel Cafe (in Tourist Center building) - you will wait for it 30 minutes; use outdoor place by the wall (much better organised).

Wawel is such a marvel and important part of Polish heritage - it definitely deserves much better management.

“Slice of Polish history”

The climb of the bell tower is well worth completing. Use the audio guide and take your time to soak up the surroundings.
