Owner description: Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

With Muzeum Czartoryskich closed the only way to see the stunning Leonardo da Vinci 'Lady with an Ermine' is to go to the castle and pay 10 zloty to see the painting situated in a room at the top of the building where the Art of the Orient exhibition is held. Well worth it..
A large part of these castle grounds are free to walk around with great views of Krakow and the river. You have to pay to view all the areas but they are all priced separately such as the armory and treasures not expensive. (16 zloty)

Had a pleasurable few hours looking around the castle. Lots to see and do, although the paths were a bit treacherous in the snow. Armoury museum the best part. Had a nice coffee and dumplings in the cafe. State rooms were not open though and be prepared to leave your bag in the luggage room, although this service was free.

A large part of these castle grounds are free to walk around, you only have to pay to enter state rooms, royal private apartments, crown treasury and armoury, oriental art, lost wawel, dragons den, sandomierska tower and exhibitions. The view from the top is fantastic. We were there for 1.5 hours and visited the armoury/crown treasury (which didnt take too long) and the state rooms. A beautiful castle for a beautiful city. Must see

The castle is closed on Mondays, which we weren't aware of, so we only managed to walk around the castle area.

The castle area is functional but not very pretty though good views. The castle bit itself is just weird. It looks like you have had a dozen architects arguing over the style and then building one style each.

Take the free walking tour and then hit hit the castle on the free day. Not worth the money to see inside. I will go back and look at the church and the grounds but I won't spend the money to go in.
