Owner description: Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

An amazing mish mash of different buildings all enclosed within the castle's walls. Cathedral, Crown Jewels, courtyard, all stunning

Unless you do a bit of research or pay extra for the English audio guides, this is really hasn't a lot of context (little information is provided otherwise). It's beautiful with magnificent artifacts and rooms, but I think Krakow has a lot more significant historical sites to offer. Would recommend going for a walk around the castle perimeter for a fantastic view of the Wisla river and you'll come across the fire-breathing Wawel dragon.

Unfortunately we didn't actually go inside the buildings as they were free during November while we were visiting and the cues were massive with only a limited number of tickets. No matter how early we got there there was always another few hundred people ahead of us! We walked around the outside to admire the beautiful buildings and wonderful scenery.

Lovely place for a walk with lots to see. unfortunately the state rooms were closed the day we went. Great buildings. Great collection in the armoury. The security guards certainly do there jobs here, they watched everyone to the point it felt uncomfortable, maybe they've had problems there, I don't know!

We went there and the tickets were sold out in a Saturday around 11 o'clock. We could only get a tour for the Cathedral and for some reason we missed one of the milestones. We either were not paying enough attention or the place is marked bad. We liked the architecture and what the place could offer but it wasn't enough if we couldn't visit more of it.
