“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

Founded in 1553 by Moses Isserles who son known as 'Remuh' gave this synagogue its name. It is not a huge place and not much information available but if you are visiting the Jewish quarter a must see it will not take long to look around.

Very few things are left. Of course I had to put a kippa on but they didn' t have any paper kippa and I had to put on a dirty one.

“Evocative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

Visually, the small synagogue and relativey unkempt cemetary aren't particularly impressive.
But it is about much more than aesthetics in a place like this, which shouldn't deter you from a short visit.
Read up before you go for a full appreciation of the site, as there is minimal information available there.

“Interior of synagogue under construction, cemetery behind it very evocative.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

On a Eastern European tour we visited Krakow and several of the synagogues there in Kazimierz, the Old Jewish Quarter..

The outside of Remuh synagogue with its wrought iron gate and inscribed archway looked very interesting, so, we paid our admission fee to the rather unwelcoming attendants and entered the synagogue, only to find it full of scaffolding and drop cloths, and obviously under major renovation.

However, the old cemetery back behind the synagogue was very interesting and evocative, and well worth a few photographs to try and capture the mood. Other reivewers here mention being able to get a guide to explain the significance of this particular Jewish cemetery and those buried her which, if you can arrange it, would greatly enhance your appreciation of this site.

Unless you are really in desperate need, avoid the bathroom here.

“Poor relations”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Having seen the cathedral and the castle, the marvelous main market square and many other attractions in this fine city, I was disappointed when I went to this dreary place. It is the poor relation to the other spectacular sites. I imagine that it is of great significance to those of the faith, but it did not float my boat. This was due , partly , to the erection of scaffolding and the restoration processes that were manifest at the time of my visit. Perhaps next time there will be a better presentation of what is a historical site.
