I visited this museum as part of an art class. There is a lot of detail of everyday common life in Poland/Krakow over time. Surprised to see bagpipes! It is a nice change from all the churches and castles (as wonderful as they are). It is located easily near the Wolnica Square (Plac. Wolnica) tram stop. Note: if you bring a backpack you will have to store it before touring the museum.

Tourists seem to miss this excellent museum, which is a plus for those who seek it out. We were almost alone in this amazing museum of the people. Excellent representations of traditional housing, beautiful costumes and helpful attendants made this a special experience for us.

It is a really nice museum and we would recommend it. The museum covers many different aspects of life in Poland and has something of interest for most people.

Don’t make the same mistake as we did and go into the wrong place, the building on the main street where the tram stops isn’t the main museum (see our photo). We went into this and it was just 2 small rooms (displaying exhibits in a ‘modern’ way) with the temporary exhibition which we didn’t want to see. Only 6 zloty, but money wasted unfortunately!

We didn’t realise that flash wasn’t allowed in the dark reconstructed rooms as we hadn’t seen any signs and the attendant quickly indicated we should not use flash when we took a photo!

There was no coffee shop. There were some items for sale by the ticket desk. The cost was 9 zloty each and the museum is open late until 9 p.m. on a Thursday, it was quiet when we visited.

A beautifully curated museum in the Kazimierz area, showing the breadth and wealth of Polish folk culture. My favourite exhibits were the extensive display of Polish national dress, and the painted Easter eggs (pisanki). This is a definite must-see, especially if you are staying in the area and have a free hour or two. I went on a Thursday evening when the the museum was open until late, and had the place virtually to myself.

A small and not particularly sophisticated exhibit, and that is what I like about it. A good taste of Polish ethnographical history
